That's a really good point, Jookbeard! I just realized that recently, having thought of it as more similar to the 1914 thing, thinking, ok , how long would that be past 1925, if millions would still be alive, etc.

ALl that 1925/BethSarim predictions/speculation is the backdrop to Rutherford's "light flashing up" to reveal the great crowd in the 30's! Essentially, a whole new religious system apart from the New Covenant. As the old saying goes "Consider the source." Was that guy a reliable and trustworthy interpreter of Scripture? ? Or...if it was light "from Jehovah", special revelation, what was his track record with that? Wow, what was that guy smoking (drinking?)???

It's just as though Hal Lindsey or Harold Camping would come up with a MAJOR new interpretation never before heard of, after their failed predictions/speculations, and say this is light from Jehovah, and you have to listen to it!

On another note, to make sure that I understand this, and I'm asking here if this is how it went down.

1. ORIGINALLY Rutherford said "Millions now living MAY never die"

2. THEN he said, "Millions now living WILL never die"

3. THEN the WTBTS quoted him as saying "Millions now living MAY never die"

Whereas they were making a TRUE quote, but were not quoting the latest modification, is this the way it went down?

If not, where can I go to see a connect the dot diagram of what is the issue here?

So Rutherford NEVER said "millions now living "may" never die" ?

I thought I had seen on a video on youtube that this was the case and that he had changed it after a bit to "WILL" but I may have completely missed that point.

The original title of Rutherford's talk was "Millions Now Living May Never Die". Only later was it changed to "Millions Now Living Will Never Die".

Rutherford, being an opportunistic business man, saw the huge success of the campaign based on the word "May", so he changed it to say "Will". This resulted in even greater success. When WT quotes the earlier, unrevised title "Millions Now Living May Never Die", it is nothing more than dishonesty and an attempt to whitewash the facts. The WT presented it as a definite, unquestionable expectation beyond dispute. "May" happen wasn't even a consideration.

As jookbeard correctly pointed out, this campaign was directly tied to the false WT prophecy of Armageddon coming in 1925. So, it has no application to any time period beyond 1925. It failed and has been swept under the rug.

The WT's doctrine of "generation", however, has everything to do with dates after 1925, and is responsible for such debacles as the 1975 failure.
