BTW, where's Angharad?
Angharad is working hard, I'm hardly working
She'll attend too though.
All these people, so far away ... I feel bad now for effectively picking somewhere just a short drive away for us !

Good; you deserve to feel bad, ya selfish bastich!
Actually, it's all us Canadians' fault for being so damn spread out over our country.
I posted this in the "dinner" thread:
Edmonton or Red Deer might be better; they're a little more central to the province. Or better yet, Drumheller! Maybe attend a symposium at the Royal Tyrell Musem on evolution...

I thought we were supposed to say "massed along the boarder wating for the command to invade" ?
Oh, right... we're not supposed to say that - I remember now
The Royal Tyrell at Drumheller is an awesome place - Red Deer is probably more central if there are people coming from Edmonton. We'll see where is best based on who will be coming and people's preferences.

STFU, man!!!!! (besides, you're originally from the UK, so WTF do you know?)
Seriously, though, I'm... considerably north of Edmonton.
Drumheller would go over well with my kids, but I don't know if my wife's health will allow for a road trip that substantial.

North of Edmonton !? That is the arctic circle isn't it?
Dogsled?
PS I'm teasing, Vid. My knowledge of Calgary, Banff and Edmonton is a couple of sales trips. The mall is amazing. The drive from Ed. to Calg. is very scenic. (lol).
Where I am is definately closer to the Circle than I used to be; it's summer, and still twilight at 11.00pm.
Say, 5-6 hours drive from Edmonton (won't say more).
EDIT: And before anyone calls me a pussy and says "5 hours ain't much", it is for me, 'cause I did a lot of long-distance driving in my younger days and I'm sick of it.
(That being said, if my family were up to it, I think I could make Edmonton or Red Deer.)
Its been 30 years since I've been up that far north but I remember a long, long, long drive from Edmonton ...
I would join you, if I didn't live half way across the country from you.
There are lots of great choices in Alberta - Sylvan Lake might be fun, or one of the other many lakes in the area. There's some really nice places near Red Deer along the David Thompson highway. Could do a camping thing like Flipper did. That way a 6-hour drive is more of a weekend getaway for the family.
I don't recall there ever really being a meetup in this area of the world and I've wanted to go to one for a long time!
Yes, another option that may suit those travelling further is to combine it with a trip to the mountains so it's not just about a meal with some strangers!
e.g. Jasper or Banff ?
