I hope she is ready for the storm that will come at her. Good for her though!

'"It's not about wanting or not wanting to do Scientology," the source continues in Page Six's story. "The issue is that [Miscavige] is taking down this church and hurting people and families.”'

Sounds like a personal thing w management, more than church doctrine thing.

That being said, the core ideas are a form of nlp, which may have some value. Some exscientologists have writen their own versions of scientology techniques, without the hierarchy and costs.

"She thinks no religion should tear apart a family or abuse someone under the umbrella of 'religion.'"

What an amazing, logical, wonderful belief! Wow! and I loved her on King of Queens...great show!

Becoming an 'Independent Scientologist' like the main defectors are doing is less harmful than the Miscavigeite cult they were feeding into. Let them play with their e-Meters all they want to. Miscavige is a vile sadistic man whose twisted little fiefdom is getting run into the dirt by his own arrogance.

This is a point that Steven Hassan makes often, people will more often leave a cult of personal mistreatment and disillusionment then over doctrine.

We ex-JW's who speak out against the Watchtower know that some OTHER ex-JW's are still JW at heart and will seriously defend it as "truth", but for some reason don't go back (they don't want to or can't hack it).

In the case of Leah Remini, even though some of L. Ron Hubbard's ideas still make sense to her, she burned her bridges to the controlling organization of Scientologists by speaking out about what she knows to be true. That took guts, and I'm glad she did it. I hope some cult members will take encouragement from what she did and find their way out.

I find the resemblances to the early WT movement uncanny. They have a Rutherfordesque leader in Miscavige who hijacked the whole thing from Hubbard under mysterious circumstances. Hubbard's wife was considered by many to be the second in command, and two members actually produced an order from Hubbard making them senior officers while Miscavige claimed it was a forgery and pressured Hubbard's wife to resign. The new movement both within and outside of Scientology is the 'independent' movement of former members who believe in all the Hubbard writings, but reject Miscavige and the current organisation as being unfaithful to the original cause. John Sweeney's BBC documentaries were interesting in that in the second film, a high ranking Scientogist featured in the first film had defected and laid down what happened in the first and how Sweeney had been set up to yell at their PR man.
