Jesus is reported to have said about his followers : "unless you become LIKE LITTLE CHILDREN" and the people of these beautiful islands seem to reflect that quality.

If only the congreagations of JWs were made of such characters instead of the domineering, cliquish, judgemental carricatures that they are of , what christianity could be like.

get a philippina, as a nanny perhaps, into your house with many mirrors and you will see smiles everywhere, even on your face.

.. and then I saw a Filipino lady write this:

Why do Filipinos love to smile?

Filipinos love to laugh and smile even in times of adversity, trials, and troubles. We can always see this during news when the camera, instead of capturing depressed people, is most of the time showing people who are smiling and waving frantically at the camera – ONLY IN THE PHILIPPINES. We always smile not because we are being stupid or just unaffected. We smile because we believe that despite of the hardships and difficulties we encounter, there is still hope. We know that somewhere out there, there is God who will give us strength and courage to face our day-to-day problems. We trust in God so much. We believe that no matter what happen, everything will be alright. That’s the reason why Filipinos SMILE.

Denny's was doing the same thing. They sent recruiters over there, w lots promises, if they came to canada to work in denny's. When they got them here, promises were broken. I never ate at dennys, after i learned of that.

I know the people who own and run the McDonalds (used to live a few doors up the street) and seeing them interact with the staff and how the staff respond I don't believe they are being taken advantage of.

I'll definitely be more careful to make sure that this is the case with other businesses though.

OA thank you for the links, the insight into the feeling behind the smile.

It is despicable that these willing workers have to come indebted into these work situations abroad in saudi arabia, canada by these

EMPLOYMENT AGENCIES, that provide no service but are part of the gamut set up to filch from the poorest of the poor.

I have a feeling that these fine people, workers have an appreciation for LIFE, for the moment and the moments to come no matter what reality throws at them.

are they not an asset to his country?

If you want to bring a smile and a giggle to a Philipino, greet them with "Mabuhay" (pronounced Mah BOO Hi) which is an insider expression of jubilation equivalent of the Vulcan "Long Live and prosper".
