Thanks Cedars. I feel for the people who have been falsely accused of child sex-crimes. It would be terrible to be a young person who had a consensual relationship with someone and was then charged with a sexual offense. This thing is such a mess, it's time to rip off the bandage. If I was falsely accused and was on that list, I would not care if it was disclosed. Protecting children is more important.
I feel the WTBTS not disclosing the list to protect the " innocent " on the list is a weak defense. If you were a minor in a relationship no one views you as a sex-offender. If you were falsely accused, your real friends know that. Non-witness step-father, child pornographer, those actually guilty..they can hang in the wind. Far more harm is done by not disclosing this information, and by not practicing justice " in the gates."

Watchtower settled out-of-court with the Plaintiffs, May 2012. Settlement amount is unknown at this time. (There were five sexual abuse victims in this case)
Regarding this statement in the 10 NEWS article: "A database detailing more than 23,000 allegations of abuse was taken from church headquarters and revealed to the public in 2002," I'd like to explain how that number came to be public.
About the statement, " You have been told that here in the United States we have compiled a list of 23,720 names of child abusers," etc.:
The figure of 23,720 alleged child abusers in WT's database came from William (Bill) Bowen which he gave to the producer of Dateline in 2001. That number, or the number, 23,000, was NOT taken from "church headquarters." Bowen reportedly was given that number by an XJW women who lived in NY and worked for a NY law firm where she reportedly learned of the 23,720 number. Some people have mistakenly supposed that I was responsible for revealing that number. I did not because it was unknown to me until Bowen told me about the information back in 2001.

Londo, thanks for this post- I can't believe they got the WT counsel on tape admitting they do NOT contact the authorities. What a bitch-slap to the R&F that are giving their entire lives for this place.
Really wished he hadn't said anything about the database.. Church HQ didn't supply him with that info for sure.

No major changes will happen to protect children until enough people write to their politicians and make a big STINK!
Lawsuits will just bleed the WTBTS of operating funds which the R&F will be dupped into giving more for the WTBTS's missionary work. The only good thing that may happen with more lawsuits is that a few more JWs will see TTATT.

As I mentioned above, I wrote to Mitch Blacher about the discrepancy in his report. He has now emailed back to thank me for drawing it to his attention. He says they have "changed the copy to make it more accurate."
They haven't changed it much, but I suppose it's a little better...
