I admit #11, 15, and 20 were pushing the envelope and #25 was a little bit of a cheap shot at the US' expense.

I do know that Canada is the brunt of many a joke in the US, and we quietly endure it often chuckling right along with those poking fun(i.e South Park "Blame Canada") ... but that is just something that also make up Canadians.

Canadians are a very patriotic people. IT is just that our patriotism was something internal and rarely vocalized or 'shoved in people's faces'. I am glad to see Canada starting to vocalize their pride, becoming just a little more 'american' in the way we express out nationalism.

PS - Just for the record, this was a cut and paste not something authored by me. I should have stated that in the first post. my bad.

    Ros,

Nothing wrong with that. Next step is to learn to express it without negative implications toward another country. ;-)

I presume you mean Canadian attitudes to the US.

Personally I think much of this irrational criticism of all things US was born in Europe out of a nothing more complicated than material jealousy and the Augustine mentality that one needs to suffer in life, or at least pretend to be suffering, to be of any value to others….lol

Why does approximately 90% of the Canadien population live near the American border? They want to be close to greatness!!

... Still wondering if there is such a thing as "Canadian Cuisine"....

    Hi, again, Kismet:

You said you have heard a lot of jokes by Americans about Canadians. That's interesting because I've never heard Canadian jokes, and I have lived most of my life in border states. From time-to-time, this has been a topic of discussion on one of my private e-mail groups where some exJW Canadians participate.
I've heard numerous jokes and resentments about "Americans" by Canadians in these forums, but only recently I heard the first Canadian joke I can ever remember. I mention this because it has come to my awareness only in very recent years, in exJW discussion groups. I was blissfully unaware of it before.

    Blessings,

    Hi, HS!
Looks like some of us are on-line about the same time.

    You said:

I presume you mean Canadian attitudes to the US
Well, in the case of Kismet's post, yes.
It's not that I think there couldn't be Canadians jokes. I could make up some myself if I were inclined.
    Example:
Isn't it about time Canadians realized they are 'Americans'? ;-)

How does one define "discrimination" and "generalization", and why doesn't it apply to everyone?

i can't resist posting the lyrics to blame canada :)

    BLAME CANADA
    All four Moms

    Sheila: Time's have changed
Our kids our kids are getting worse
    They wont obey their parents
They just want to fart and curse!
Sharon: Should we blame the government?
    Liane: Or blame society?
Dads: Or should we blame the images on TV?
    Sheila: No, blame Canada
    Everyone: Blame Canada
Sheila: With all their beady little eyes
And flappin heads so full of lies
    Everyone: Blame Canada
    Blame Canada
Sheila: We need to form a full assault
    Everyone: It's Canadas fault!
    Sharon: Don't blame me
    For my son Stan
    He saw the darn cartoon
And now he's off to join the Klan!
Liane: And my boy Eric once
Had my picture on his shelf
But now when I see him he tells me to fuck myself!
    Sheila: Well, blame Canada
    Everyone: Blame Canada
It seems that everythings gone wrong
    Since Canada came along
    Everyone: Blame Canada
    Blame Canada
Some Guy: There not even a real country anyway
Ms. McCormick: My son could've been a doctor or a lawyer it's true
Instead he burned up like a piggy on a barbecue
Everyone: Should we blame the matches?
    Should we blame the fire?
Or the doctors who allowed him to expire?
    Sheila: Heck no!
    Everyone: Blame Canada
    Blame Canada
Sheila: With all their hockey hubbabaloo
Liane: And that bitch Anne Murray too
    Everyone: Blame Canada
    Shame on Canada
    The smut we must stop
    The trash we must smash
    Laughter and fun
    must all be undone
We must blame them and cause a fuss
Before someone thinks of blaming uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuus

As I mentioned 4 of the 25 points listed are direct insults to the US. I admit that and being a true canadian, I apologize for not editing them out from the original before posting it here.

I suppose it is ironic that a post I make in fun is taken so seriously by others...uhhhhh ummm not that I would ever do that.... uhhh moving right along....

Canadian Cuisine? Poutine for one! fresh cheese curds, that special grravy.. heart attack waiting to happen!! LOL Smoked mesquite gopher is pretty popular too. ROFL

Thanks for posting the lyrics harm. Like I said most Canadians laughed right along with the Southpark gang and Robin Williams doing that song during the Oscars... Hilarious!!!!!

Once again I am sorry I struck a sensitive nerve with some here.

    Hi, again, Kis:

Sorry if my response implied offense. It's just that in the forums I mentioned, some of the Canadian discussion toward the U.S. has bordered on almost political rage. It has really bewildered me because I was so naive about it. In growing up I never thought much about Canada any differently than a bordering state.

First time I visited Canada was a DA in Vancouver. I was surprised they even had different money and called "french fries" potato chips and ate them with vinegar instead of catsup. :-)

    Sorry I offended.
