I'm so excited!! This is the first post that I started that has a flame next to it. Thank you to everyone who contributed.

I asked my husband this question and he said it all goes back to the age old thinking of "There's the girls you date, and the girls you marry." Lucky for him I'm a combination of both and lucky for me, he's a combination of "The guy you date and the guy you marry".

'Lucky for him I'm a combination of both and lucky for me, he's a combination of "The guy you date and the guy you marry".'

I hate to disappoint you, Shimmer, but that's what everyone tells their spouse.

It is all myth. Merchants and traders from both Europe and Asia would meet to exchange goods in Persia. There they would trade stories and myths as well as goods. That is how the stories of the bible are the same ones which talked about Buddha and Krishna in both Hindu and Buddhist religious scrolls hundreds of years before the bible was written.
Nonsense. And I'm referring primarily to the popular opinion that just because similar events are recorded in different places that one account came from another. That's simplistic thinking.

To illustrate, flood accounts of great similarity are recorded in both the Bible and the Chaldean legends. The Chaldean legends are older, so many jump to the knee-jerk assumption that the Biblical one is taken from the Chaldean one. One merely needs to read them a little closer to see that there is one vast difference: they are written from two opposing viewpoints.

One could say that a woman who has been raped and her rapist will have many similarities in their stories of the event. That does not mean that she is merely repeating what he told her.

Guys, if you had to choose between marrying Betty Crocker or Madonna, which one would you choose?

Guess I'd have to choose Betty. Madonna is a slut-bitch.

    RunningMan,

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by that. I will say that my husband and I have not always been as happy as we are now. In fact we even separated for a year about 3 years ago. And at that time we were telling each other to F*** off and die, you worthless piece of sh**. It has taken alot of hard work, soul searching, acceptance, mutual respect, tolerance, honest self-inventory, forgiveness, letting go, picking battles and yes ultimately love. So, I don't think he's just blowing smoke up my ass, he's not the type, and neither am I.

I'm actually sad for you if that has been your experience.

    Lonewolf,

Your opinion is just that, your opinion. You can call my thoughts simplistic or use an other cutting term and it still doesn't make your opinion more viable. In "my opinion" the bible is a book of myths and manipulative stories to control those who believe it, you are welcome to see it as you wish. I do not care nor am I interested in debating the issue. You post your thoughts on issues, I post mine. There is no need to add self righteous cutting remarks and call my opinion simplistic, that's how little wars get started on this board and I have had enough of them.

What I was referring to are the many stories and parables such as immaculate conception, sheep and goats, feeding crowds with a few pieces of bread, the mustard seed, healing the sick, raising the dead and so on and so on. If you have read anything about the stories of either Buddha or Krishna you would see that these same exact almost word for word stories were attributed to them as well as the man Jesus. The identical stories were written about Buddha and Krishna hundreds of years before the man Jesus supposedly walked the earth. Call it what you wish, it still doesn't make it any less true. Read the story of Buddha and you will see for yourself. Read the Upanishads and you will see numerous little concepts that have been duplicated in the bible with a few of the names changed to make it look like it was the bible writers original concept. The Hindu religion is thousands of years older than the christian religion and there are hundreds of things taken from Hinduism and rewritten to fit christianity. This is a historical fact and not just my opinion.

    Take care,

seven006 --- LOL. Slow down, my friend. I can see how you could take that personally, but that wasn't how I meant it. I was warning you to beware of the simplistic thinking that characterizes that school of thought.

Just as we must beware of some here who would use any tactic to discredit the Society, regardless of whether they are true, fair, or anything else, and thereby setting back the efforts of the rest of us, so there are those equally eager to discredit the Bible and will take shortcuts.

That, to me, is folly. We want truth, whatever and where ever it may be. That speaks of a thoroughness and great care in examining these matters. To jump to an unwarrented conclusion does no one any favors.

Thank you for enlarging on what you were referring to originally. That helps me understand what you were referring to. I'd be interested in a few examples and why you feel that the Bible writer copied them, but we've hijacked this thread enough. Perhaps somewhere else?

    You too, take care.

    LoneWolf,

Your a good man, thanks for the way you replied. If you have read some of my posts you would see that I do not make blind accusations simply to discredit the JW's. They can do that quite well on their own. My comments on the bible are the same. I do not take short cuts nor do I repeat rummer that is not substituted. This topic can be argued forever. I am not interested in doing that. I do not get into biblical arguments with christisns nor do I condemn anyone for what they choose to believe. Life is too short. I do however post my thoughts based on my research when I feel it fits the topic. I did speak out of turn once when talking about the New World's Translation and was corrected. I appreciated the person correcting my mistake. When it comes to JW theology and their writings I leave that to friends who are more interested in such things like Alan F. If I need accurate information on that subject matter I simply ask him. When he wants to know anything that involves my research and expertise, he asks me.

There a some web sites that show the caparisons I spoke of and there are actually a few books of the Upanishads on line. If you would like for me to give you the links to theses sites email me and I will do that. The sites do not give the full picture but they give a very good overall synopsis. You can read then and then form your own opinion or do more research if you like. The research part of my journey is over. I have spent too much time on it in the past.

    Take care and thanks again,

    Dave
