I am sorry you are still suffering from your JW childhood Rebel. It makes me sad that I deprived my own kids of those things. I tried to make it up to them with special present days and parties (prob. Wouldn't be allowed now), but of course it was not the same. The dubs made such a big deal about things it's liked they sucked all the fun out of everything. Can't have parties, someone might drink to much, can't do this can't do that.

I try to make it up to my kids by making sure they get nice gifts on their birthday and Christmas, and I apologized to them for bringing them up in a cult. I think they are doing OK now. It's nice being able to do those things for my grandkids.

One thing that helped me as I was leaving, was the book, Simple Abundance by Sarah Ban Breathnach. It is a short lesson for everyday, plus things to do seasonally, to celebrate the everyday. On thing she suggests is making a comfort drawer. Put little things that you like, like bubble bath, chocolates, a new a book, etc. Then when you are having a bad day, hit the comfort drawer. If you follow the book for a year, you will have started to create your own memories to look back on. While you can't get your childhood back, you can nurture your inner child. As they say, living well is the best revenge.

It's never too late to be what you might have been
