    ATime for Testing and Judging

Jesus was baptized and anointed as King-Designate at the Jordan River about October 29 C.E. Three and a half years later, in 33 C.E., he came to Jerusalem’s temple and threw out those who were making it a cave of robbers. There appears to be a parallel to this in the three-and-a-half-year period from Jesus’ enthronement in the heavens in October 1914 until his coming to inspect professed Christians as judgment began with the house of God. (Matthew 21:12, 13; 1 Peter 4:17) Early in 1918 the Kingdom activity of Jehovah’s people met with great opposition. It was a time of testing earth wide, and fearful ones were sifted out. In May 1918 Christendom’s clergy instigated the imprisonment of officials of the Watch Tower Society, but nine months later these were released. Later, the false charges against them were dropped. From 1919 the organization of God’s people, tried and refined, moved zealously forward to proclaim Jehovah’s Kingdom by Christ Jesus as the hope for mankind.—Malachi 3:1-3.

As Jesus began his inspection in 1918, the clergy of Christendom no doubt received an adverse judgment. Not only had they raised up persecution against God’s people but they had also incurred heavy bloodguilt by supporting the contending nations during the first world war. (Revelation 18:21, 24) Those clergymen then placed their hope in the man-made League of Nations. Along with the entire world empire of false religion, Christendom had fallen completely from God’s favor by 1919.

I remember walking down the road with my hubby after one book group several years ago (before I 'woke up') and said that if I have to sit through anymore of that 1914-1918 stuff and have one more reference to the 'Cedar Point' convention, that I'd never go to another book study, that it was just plain ridiculous and how do they expect us to believe all that stuff... I must have been waking up even back then LOL

How about the Elders being the " Stars " of Revelation in Jesus' hand?!?! I mean, come on!? No "Star" in Jesus' hand would obey the Shepherd book over God's word. This guy would..

I beleive those stars were based on the Pleides spoken of by Russell. Also found out that that same group of seven stars were used by many a ancient religion in their beliefs.

To add to westiebilly11 comment "Revelation, it's grand climax "in hand" ,... More like premature speculation"

“notjustyet”: “ I beleive those stars were based on the Pleides spoken of by Russell. Also found out that that same group of seven stars were used by many a ancient religion in their beliefs.”

Actually, Russell even taught that the seven stars of the Pleiades, also called the “Seven Sisters,” was the physical location of Jehovah God in heaven! I don’t think that physicist Stephen Hawking would agree. (I guess that particular “gem” of a teaching had to be revised also.)

"And in that hour a great earthquake occurred ,and a tenth of the city fell; and seven thousand persons were killed by the earthquake, and the rest became frightened and gave glory to the God of heaven" Rev 11:13

This scripture receives a quite heroic interpretation that even when I was a JW I really thought was clutching at straws somewhat...

Earthquake - This is applied to the release of Rutherford & his associates in 1919 - an event that was so dramatic that "the ground seemed to move under the leaders of the established churches as this body of revivified Christians got to work."

7,000 people killed & 1/10 of the city - those of Christendom who leave & become JWs

Those who gave glory - Christendom's clergy who were forced to acknowledge ( perhaps mentally or to themselves) that the God of the John class was stronger than their god.
