JW internet warnings

Your point Cellomould is so true.. i,e. parents withdraw their support and watch their kid's lives become miserable and then saying, "Jehovah has withdrawn from them." In any circumstance or situation if parents did this to their kids, failure is almost surely eminent. Jehovah "withdrawing" from them has nothing to do with it. This is just something the witnesses say to keep an element of "control."

This is just like the threat they told me just before I was disfellowshipped...."You'll be in the world without anyone and Jehovah will withdraw his spirit from you leaving you completely alone for Satan to get a hold of."

Good points Larc: When the Nov. 99 KM came out, I wondered if maybe some at Bethel who wrote that article did so hoping that JWs would go to the Internet ... but I may be too optamistic. The truth is, they likely believe they can really control the JWs by such discouragement.

Were I still a JW and saw that KM, I would start looking on the Internet out of curiosity. I think many JWs would read Crisis of Conscience and other things if they could do it without being seen.

This is why I believe many JWs lurk on various forums ... it is safe, and they can come and go quickly without being noticed. It is also why I find some ex-JW material to be unfortunate because it may defeat the help that could be given ... and sometimes I wonder if some stir trouble because they are JW believers who are trying to make the Internet look bad ... but that is just speculation on my part ...

I hope that more and more JWs, young and old will get on the Internet at schools, libraries, and home ... and discover the truth about the TRVTH.

During my recent conversation with my JW friend, he mentioned that they were warned to stay away from the internet. What's the reasoning behind it? Why, because you might stumble upon witnesses who write garbage like this that make them look bad:

    Poem "He Doesn't Serve God"
    > >
    > > I met him at work one day
    > > On my lunch break, I was about to pray
    > > We talked on and on and oh, he's such a gentleman
    > > I wished that moment would never end
    > >
    > > But then reality brought forth, the end of my lunch hour
    > > As he arose, he stood as strong and tall as a tower
    > > We met again and again; our souls began to cling
    > > I've pondered, "Could this be the real thing?" ...

    {additional stanzas bashing non witnesses...}

...Listen to me, let me tell you to your face
    > > To marry an unbeliever is a total disgrace
    > > Jehovah, a loving father, who cares for his sheep
    > > So he set guidelines for us to hold and to keep
    > > Let me say this, just to set things straight
    > > He'll give you a nice brother, a theocratic mate
    > > Cause there's nothing a worldly man has to offer at all
    > > But unhappiness, sorrow and a serious fall

So, according to my friend, the internet ban is not really about saving JWs from Satan or from apostates, it's actually about saving witnesses from other witnesses. Hmmmmm.

I, too, have heard Witnesses say that the internet is Satan's network, and that everything on it, without exception is evil, vile, and Satanic. (These were mostly older people who had never used it) I then informed them that the Society had an official web site. They were stunned.

Banning the internet is the second stupidest thing they could do. They are making it irresistable to anyone with a mind. Besides, newly interested ones are not aware of the ban, and so they go to the internet and find nothing but negative sites, since the pro-JW sites have all been shut down.

The stupidest thing they can do is ban the internet, and then put up their own site. The hypocrisy is obvious to everyone. It's like Hugh Heffner denouncing pornography.

I'm certain the Internet has helped thousands exit the Tower, and countless others who searched the Web before joining. Young people today have grown up in the Internet culture. They talk with their friends during and after school on-line, and the Society can't control it. JW parents trying to keep kids off-line only cause them to sneak off to a friend's house to use the computer. The Society's lame efforts to control information to youth and adults show how desperate they've become. The Internet is their worst nightmare--they can't control it!

About 6 years ago I bought a WebTV device for my aunt and my uncle who is in a wheelchair due to a progressive disease. My aunt is 73 don't know how old Uncle is.

I paid for the thing, paid for a one year subscription even went to their house and hooked it up.

I thought it would give him something to do because he was driving her bonkers. At the time I was "Strong in the truth" LOL and even took her to the Watchtower websites......

After we left, later that week they decided to use it. When she turned it on, I had set it to go to a default Microsoft page that asked "Where do you want to go today?"

She yanked the fucking thing out of her wall and bashed it into a million bits. She was convinced the demons were talking to her.

    Now THAT is funny.

My uncle is still driving her buggy. She should have let the deminz get to him, LOL.

OMG, Lisa, that's so funny...what a waste of money. You should just have given them a Playstation instead!

Sheesh, I know that I was INTENSELY interested in everything banned by the WTBTS when I was still in Dubland...I doubt it's any different for many of the 'youngsters'. They are still growing and learning new things, and thank God for that.
