I see I struck a cord of the cigar afficionados on this board. Great. Now I know I'm not the only one.

I am wondering, how long after you left or faded from the religion did you give them a try? Did it seem strange at first to even be holding one? Who or what put you up to it?

Me, it was only a few months after I faded and a timely company party that got me started.

A couple months. I had always wanted to try one and liked the way they smell. I just tried one when I realized it was my choice and not "bad".

I might smoke half a good cigar every couple of weeks. I enjoy it very much with brandy, outside on a nice evening. I have a couple of nice jobs tucked away. I might just break one out. It is 86f here right now and all the flowers are blooming in the garden.

    See you guys later.

I keep trying new ones always in the over-$5 price range, sometimes $8 or $10. But the price doesn't always tell the story. I've had some great $5 smokes and some not-so-good $9 smokes.

My problem is that I have to time my private pleasure carefully. Evening would be perfect, after dinner, but I live with a woman (aka my wife) who would absolutely blow a gasket about it.

On the positive side, it helps keep cigar smoking from becoming too regular/expensive.

    Ahhh bliss...

I went crazy with the cigars after fading. Now maybe 3 /4 times a year. Nothing like an adult beverage, scotch, bourbon or my favorite The Tyrconnell single malt Irish Whiskey. A tip o' the hat to my grandpa. My current fav's are pretty much anything by Romeo y Julieta or Upmann. If you live anywhere close to an Indian Casino they are pretty reasonable as are even more upscale brands like Cohiba etc.

A cool summer evening. A candle on the back deck. Pandora's cool jazz station. You don't need to go through the big A to enjoy paradise.

    Happy Fade and Happy Smoking

    Hey LTD

Sorry the feed here took some time to refresh. When I was in my teens I worked at a Country Club where all the old waitresses where either smoking or looking to get laid by the busboys. Since the latter was out of the question, I tried smoking cig's but really didn't like them that much.

Even today I'll have a cig every now and again but really don't enjoy it. So much for demon control.

So probably a year or so into my fade I tried a cigar. Probably some really $hitty brand. Smoked it in the truck on the interstate, windows rolled down so the cab wouldn't smell like smoke. Ate an entire pack of gum before I got home. This went on for awhile.

Finally after some research I concluded that as many of the above have stated, Dominicans and the occasional Cubans are the best. Don't waste your time on any other lighter but Xikar. I bought a Lotus that died in six months. Be sure to refill said lighter with only Colibri butane. DO NOT waste your time with the Zippo Blue lighters. My daughter bought me a Lotus cigar cutter for my Bday. Works great!!

So flash forward to the present day... every now and again the missus comes out to the back deck and has a puff or two of the old man's cigar. (no pun intended to you filthy minds out there) Life can be good after the Wits.

All my best to you and yours

Ive recently started smokng cigars as well. I've always wanted to try it. Feels great, super relaxing. I've had 2 so far-- Perdomo and one with a Cameroon leaf. I liked the Perdomo spicy, big and fat. The Cameroon one was too thn and long. It seems like I'll be trying a Dominican too, per posts on this thread.

And, no, I didn't feel bad about it. Just enjoying my life!

I made the mistake of smoking a Cohiba in the 98 degree florida sunshine at 2 in the afternoon.

    I threw up HARDCORE LOL.

Now I remember to make sure that I have some water close by if I am smoking in the afternoon, LOL.

For me it was about a year and a half before I smoked my first. I often pass a nice cigar shop and one day while driving with my wife, I pull in and hop out. Mrs. Dazed asked what I was doing. She rolled her eyes and said “Not in the house.”

I figured “What the hell? Why not try one?” It didn’t seem weird or unnatural for me at all.

I’m still kicking myself to this day. My brother gave me a genuine Cuban on the day of his wedding. I held onto it for a couple weeks but was pressured into throwing it out. This was about 4 years before my fade.
