    Nobody can give me one good reason why religions should be exempt from paying taxes. Many peform charity works but maybe they could get a reduction on taxes instead of just complete exemption for ones that could be considered performing legitimate charity.

    Could you imagine how much the Catholic church would have to pay for property taxes?

    Religions should be treated as "not-for-profits" -- they should be forced to SPEND any TAX FREE INCOME on charitable works. Any funds accumulated and not re-spent, should be taxed HEAVILY.

    As far as property: Let the church/synagoge/mosque (whatever they call the actual place of worship) -- for JWs the Kingdom Hall/Assembly Hall -- be exempt from Real Estate/Property Taxes. PERIOD.

    With every US State and municipality stretched tight for money, I can believe they haven't tapped into this slush fund of religion.
