So after hearing the "special" talk this evening, the question is, "Why?"

I mean, they just completed a HUGE addition to Walkill a couple years ago. Did they lose the phone numbers to all those "qualified" brothers who worked that job? What happened to them?

You would think they would keep a database of those guys instead of doing a nationwide canvas.

Perhaps some of those über qualified brothers at the Walkill job got a taste of bethel life and that was enough for them!

    Exactly my thought too BOC.

Did you notice that they are asking for skilled, knowledgeble construction professionals. Maybe some of the other folks used in the recent past aren't jumping on this bandwagon.

And - the branch isn't asking for a bunch of full-time jugheads to come up and assist as laborers....while counting their hours as field service time.

Time is the motivating factor.....to get the Warwick project completed before they start getting eviction notices from the new owners of some prime Brooklyn property.

Serve Jehovah by serving us is the basic message, do more, do us, thus build for Jehovah's worthy cause. They are trying to tap their free skilled labor reservoir for all it's worth, the printing business just can't sustain a profit after years of printing worthless nonsense it's time to cash in and milk the indoctrinated members for all they're worth Corporationally speaking.

Gingerbread - The 'historic' Watchtower buildings in Brooklyn have sold. It's time to 'flee to the mountains'. Ahh, so that is how they are getting around the contradiction of the end being so close, but we need a bigger premise. They are building in a new location away from everyone "in the mountains" so that everyone will be safe when armageddon shortly arrives. Armageddon is so close they never as many volunteers as possible to get it finished before Armageddon, so they are all safely tucked away. Is a bomb shelter part of the plans? That would be an indication of how much the GB believe Armageddon is coming.

I offered my trades skills for use ata quick build. I had to fill in an 'application form' (Man they love their paperwork) and there was a para that said "does this person meet the ..etc " In the middle of the answer part was written one word very aggresively "no".

I hadnt faded at that stage. But, I didint go to any busy-bee's at the kh after that then.Im not good enought to work on a QB then im not good enough to clean the toilets or paint or anything i guess.

@out4good3 - No they never mentioned gum, they just read the letter and most of the scriptures. The audience seemed very bemused by it all.

I expect the H&S letter ended wishing everyone an enjoyable time at Conventions, but did it say "Have a nice Trip" ?

jwfacts - I can see biblical parallels being drawn in the near future (in publications maybe but most obviously in talks) about leaving Brooklyn with Lot leaving Sodom, Moses leaving Egypt, 1st century Christians leaving Jerusalem...

Perhaps a 'vital lesson' will be taught about this process to the faithful - the GB and 'Bethel family' have left their home of 100 years in order to pursue 'kingdom interests'. What a fine example for all publishers to follow!!

I don't know of an underground shelter - but I do know that they'll have workout rooms, pool, tennis courts and walking/biking trails, picnic areas. The site includes a decent size lake as well.

    Swank!

Will they have a chain link fence along the shore to prevent any brothers or sisters from falling in? That would tie in the construction announcement and safety announcement together very well. I am reminded of the Devil's Lake assembly hall here in Alberta. Chain link fence, I kid you not, and panoramic windows boarded up in favour of the platform.
