mankind has advanced by determined people with fixed ideas that turned out to be right.

ideas can be expressed in different entertaining ways.

readers can than take these ideas and run with them.

shutting yourself off from ideas by catagorising them as spam, trolls will only stifle that process for all.

    leave censorship to the opponents.

How do you guys feel about someone who gets an idea in his head that we want to hear the same phrase, often a nonsensical one, repeated in a dozen or more threads which may not have anything to do with the phrase in question?

It is spamming and will be deleted.

Never assume that things haven't been noticed and aren't being acted upon even if it appears we are not doing anything immediately or visibly.

Spamming, particularly the nonsense spamming, is never tolerated for long but we want to make sure we don't overreact or act in haste i.e. give people a chance.

we want to make sure we don't overreact too soon.

I agree, it is important to overreact at the right time.

Thanks to Angharad and Simon for your responses. I noticed after my original post that some of the worst-offending spam posts seemed to be gone, but because they were spread across random threads, I wasn't sure that I knew where they had been. I had a feeling that maybe moderation was taking place after all, but I appreciate the confirmation.

That is part of what posting limits are supposed to do. You get idiots that post exactly the same thing, usually rubbish, in every topic and every category. Those who do this all the time can find their posting limits sharply reduced--if they can't post more than 10 posts per 24 hour period, it makes it pretty difficult for them to put rubbish everywhere.

As for everyone else, the expanded posting limits make sense. Most of us are here to discuss and debate religion, not to put rubbish posts everywhere. Usually, it is a few idiots that abuse this that spoil it for everyone--that's why we even need posting and topic limits in the first place. And worse is when they are advertising their favorite MLM, porn site, or some crap product that no one needs and is a ripoff. Once it reaches that point (usually it's spambots doing that), it's time to go beyond the posting limits and ban such users (again, a forum needs someone watching for, and banning, spambots). I agree that putting the exact same thing in every thread, especially if it's off topic (which itself violates another rule), deserve action to limit the damage they can do.

I'm puzzled by the significance of "yaughts" but the "We love this idea!" part is clearly a riff on Splane's public orgasm over the FDS = GB "New Light" at last year's Annual Meeting.
