My 90+ yr old grandfather was a JW elder, he's in a nursing home now & we're sorting through his old stuff.

Has a lot of JW books, including WT archive compilation books all the way back to 1952. This stuff will probably all be thrown out. We're all moving house so continuing to store it all would be a pain in the ass.

I remember hearing that the WTBTS changed a lot of stuff when they transcribed all the books to DVD (and continue to deny it). I've never actually bothered looking into it, but it'd be nice to be able to have some hard evidence i can later throw into people's faces >:] .

So, are there any good ones i should save? What books have the best or most blatent examples of this retconning.

Hmm, maybe i should ask the local congregation if they want to play museum custodian to it all. I'll have to include some notes in the books that i donated it, so i can still get access later if i need to. i dunno, just a random idea.

hey maybe i could donate the whole collection to the local library. Or are libraries dying out thesedays?

I live in Brisbane Australia incase anyone wants to take them all off my hands, asap, like - in the next few days, preferably today or tomorrow lol. I really detest throwing out books, it's particularly horrific when it's something of historic and/or controversial value. But it's not my call.

The WT library doesn't give access to most of the older pubs. It's like censorship, really. Now with the "new light" about the F&D slave, they have further distanced themselves from anything they "may have said" in the past.

The organization is a work in progress; what it is is a direct product of what they have been. They would like to unring the bell, so to speak. If you give them to the local KH they will likely be put under glass to be revered, but they will never be read.

i would hold onto them a little longer, if it were me.

Please also ask anyone on the yuku ex witness forum because I am positive there are people really wanting to add to their research collection. As the other poster said, the older publications are becoming rare and the society doesn't even want them to be still available.

I threw out much of my hubby's collection. My rule of thumb was if it was on the CD, it got tossed. Then you are left with the hard copy of the materials the WTS does not want you to have access to.

I would talk to Atlantis. There may be gaps in his collection.

I would also keep the 1930-1985 Index. I'm sure the CD-ROM skips bits and pieces of it.

Well soon after i'd posted, my aunt bagged it all up for storage (i hope). I think we're putting it into storage for now coz we don't have time to sort much. I asked her if the local church would be interested in it all and she said (to paraphrase): "Not really, the teachings have changed so much in the last 10 years that most of this stuff isn't even accurate anymore". Which is kinda the point of why it's worth keeping dear aunt, lol.

Sigh, it really is kinda hilarious how members of The-Truth(tm) have no respect or understanding of how the systematic processes of knowledge aquisition (ie: actual "truth" and howto properly seek for it) - like science, history, sociology; they have no understanding of how these processes actually work or what they look like.

Anyway, i'm no anthropologist. I'm not going to personally hold onto this entire library, i think any amount of time spent pouring over this particular brand of vomit (or the ppl who believe it) is a waste of precious time better spent elsewhere. But i figured if any of y'all had any requests for your own collections, or recommendations on what i should keep so i could wittle down the collection to just a book or 2. And no, i don't personally have the room for the library, can't hold onto it myself.

But yeah - i'd at least give it to others who are more motivated by this stuff, and it's good to keep for future research just as long as i'm not doing it.

The library isn't technically mine, it's family's. My entire family (incl extended) is JWs (incl prev menioned Aunt, she's married to an Elder), and i live ATM with my JW family. But i figured if they were just gonna toss all those books (which had been a suggestion) then they'd be obligated to let me have my pick of it instead, however i do wonder if they'd rather toss it out than let the family's heretic pass the books on to his local oh-so-evil apostate communities, heh (i may have to be sneaky about it). So yeah, this thread is me doing my token part , due dilligence and all that.

Just a suggestion: many here like to have some of these older publications for reference. I'm sure they'd like the chance to get it. It may not mean much to you but other ppl will appreciate it.

Some of the older literature is quite valuable. Check Ebay and similar sites. You may be shocked at how much some of the literature sells for.

I got rid of all my WT crap and regretted it when I wanted to prove that certain statements were made but couldn't because I trashed the lot of it. If you can afford to store it, you may later be gald you did. Whats on-line is limited and doesn't go back very far. If you were raised a Jdub, as I was, there's much to be said for being able to back up your claims of what was and wasn't said thru the literature.
