A jehovah's witness life is a hard life

The fear, guilt, poverty, shunning make it a hard way to go through life.

Ain't that the truth. And why do nearly all 'theocratic activities' have to be so awful? Meetings are boring, dressing up is annoying, field service is hell. Oh, the relief to be free from it all.

The joy of being fitted for a job; how many Witnesses have that? It's a continual hammering of square pegs in to round holes. Save the few who LIKE sales, ENJOY regulated activities and WANT a controlled life.

I often think about my childhood and all the time and money my parents wasted on a false promise. They actually lived though 1975 and it never phased on them. My mom still defends the WTS saying that they never said anything about 1975. Such denial.

Not sure if the conclusions reached so far are correct. ( at least, imo smile)

    1. My own observations are that most people in the religion want to be there for whatever percieved benefits.

    2. My own observations over a long time of (faithful? maybe dutiful-grin) service and interest in caring for the 'sheep,' was that maybe only 30% (perhaps less), had any real idea of what they were studying and supposed to be believing. In some ways the remainder were like the faithful followers of football teams and political parties. And, its when you start drawing the leadership group from the 70% that you start to find the 'one-eyed' fanatics and the 'enforcers.'

    3. Quote, " Meetings are boring, dressing up is annoying, field service is hell."

Doesn't 'boring' apply to most religious meetings? I've been to different church services, and aside from the novelty factor, there was nothing of real interest. That's why the more successful franchises have bands and pretty girl singers. And, field service is (imho) more boring also, than hellish. Getting dressed up? OK, I agree on that one. Have never worn a suit since they chucked me out.

Being a JW is a hard life, because acting stupid is painful.

Well, most religious meetings are at least shorter, and generally there's just one a week. Field service is hell if you're an introvert like me. As is giving talks! As jgnat said, JWs force people into serving in very limited ways, hate talking to strangers and in large public settings? Too bad, Jehovah won't like you anymore if you don't do it. As hoser said this 'is a hard life'

If you get into a situation you do not like - then why stay in it?

The reason I stayed, was that I uncritically accepted a religious concept, and came to believe that it was the answer to all human problems.

    It wasn't!

But the majority (still in) believe that it still is the answer.

So what if they leave, and join some other religion - arn't they still prisoners?

I see you haven't been to my church.
