I added some caching to improve site performance which is why the gravatars are not updating.
I'll clear yours out so it should then update (in a few hours) but I am also very close to rolling out a new membership system which will allow you to control the avatar you use and upload new ones (as well as sign in with 3rd party credentials such as Google / Yahoo / Facebook etc...)

When I joined this site I created a hotmail address and quickly forgot what is was. I am looking forward to changing my avatar when I can, I'm bored of the bat now.
Yep this will be a nice option to be able to actually change our account info...

Would people want to sign in with their Google, Facebook, Yahoo! accounts etc? Won't that be using peoples real names and stuff?
No, you will just use that for authentication, you'll still be able to pick a name and avatar to appear and no one else will know how you sign in to the site.
It will be safe and protect people's identities.

what happens if someone deleted the email on which this account was based (both with gravatar.com and the actual email address as well)?
There's no option here to change profile info or email address. So my gravatar is stuck in limbo.
