SFPW- there once was a poster here who ate lobster bisque from a cafeteria and wondered why it wasn't any good. ( *shaking my head* ) No, I've never gotten over it.

    My suggestions:

Do not order bisque or any shellfish item from a cafeteria.

Another suggestion is to ' google' a recipe for crab bisque.

Before eating beans take a beano.

After eating beans take activated charcoal.

    Perhaps just avoid beans altogether!!!

Glad to see this thread again. I recently accidently made some awesome tomato soup. I was making tomato sauce to can, and it was too bland. So I added 1 tablespoon each of salt and sugar to 8 cups of tomato puree. Then I poured in a pint of salsa I had made recently, kind of chunky. I tasted it, and it was so good I ate a bowlful. Canned it as tomato soup instead of tomato sauce. I've made more since then - 8 cups of pureed tomatoes, plus 4 cups of peeled-seeded-diced tomato pieces, 1 tablespoon each salt and sugar, 1/4 cup minced jalapeno, 1/4 cup minced onion, some cilantro, lime juice, a pinch of dried oregano and 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar. Yum.

Nice thread :) I made some own tomato soup with fresh tomatoes, cream and garlic/onions and basil.

You need a lot of tomatoes though but when finished you will have a very nice creamy soup :)

Good subj., Coco. Love soup but not chopping all the veggies (carrots, onion, celery, peas, etc.) which I throw in a base of Guinness beer (one bottle) after browining some decent cuts of beef and let it rip. I've cheated a few times with those frozen bags of vegetable medley but just not the same.

Favorite is tomatoe bisque but never make my own anymore. Sprouts Market has a good one that comes in a box and hear Costco has one not half bad --- their chicken tortilla soup at Sprouts is good when your desperate and no time or cook top (how lucky can a guy be - seriously!). That would be my dream not to have a cook top making me feel guilty. I love my own cooking just lack time/desire.

Here's to a pipping, hot, savoring, bowl of homemade soup and a piece of fresh sourdough bread (real butter, of course).

Vegan lentil is our standard as my teen is vegan and I'm vegetarian. We are trying butternut squash next.

Stand for Pure Worship, we have a local restaurant that makes incredible crab bisque. The recipe is secret.

Yes, I love zuchini soup, lentil soup, vegatable soup, tomato soup, vegan chile, everything!

I make my own soup becuase I am sensitive to MSG. Progresso & Campbells contain MSG. Most canned soups do. And, they taste wierd.

Spicy carrot and lentil this week.

Finely chop large onion and a few carrots, Fry in oil (rapeseed is ideal) season - salt draws liquid out the onion.

Toast 2 tsp cumin seeds and 1/2 tsp chilli flakes in hot dry pan and crush. Add to veg, cover and simmer in own juices on low heat for 10 mins

Add 300g red lentils and 1.7 ish litres of veg stock simmer for 45 mins - 1hour until lentils have all broken down and soup is thickening up.

optional - add 100 ml coconut milk to balance spices. Adjust seasoning to taste.

No need for a blender if you are good with the knife. Very quick, easy and cheap, will make 6-8 bowls.
