Not my favorite vehicle, but my first vehicle was a 1959 convertible VW bug painted an eye-searing bright yellow. Learned to drive a stick shift on that thing. Death trap, certainly, but loads of fun to drive.

Hort- My wife's college car was a 61 VW Bug given her by her uncle. Had a hand crank sunroof(premium model). She worked at Knott's Berry Farm while in college and there were nights when the fog was so thick you had to stop and walk in front of the car to find the white lines. We kept it up till when the kids were born.

I remember driving J Steele's bug while he was on a trip. I was stopped by a cop on Westminster Blvd. He asked me if I knew how fast I was driving. I said, "no." He said I was driving 65 in a 40. I told him I didn't even think it could go that fast.

We have a salesman here who handles Mexico accounts and had the buyer special order pink wire sets. Now, everybody is buying pink and lime green wire sets. We didn't see that one coming.

If we're talking beetle bugs, I have fond memories of the '69 dark blue bug with ivory vinyl interior I bought brand new. So fun to drive. Not the underpowered lawn mower bus. Maybe same drive train but a different car.

Nice Glander. When I was a teen, EVERYBODY had bugs, beetles and buses except me. I had the Ford Cortina. People love their VW's.

Glander that's a classic one, they get pretty good prices on eBay. There was a pioneer back in the 60s who had a newspaper route, filling the newspaper racks, and he bought a new bug every year and put Pirelli tires on them and Koni shocks so they would corner better. We had Michelin's on the Bus.

I have never been a big VW fan but I did own a 1972 Van about 20 years ago. It was a lot of fun and great on gas. Fortunately mine was not gutless. A brother had built the 1600cc engine and bored it out to 1641cc with duel carbs and bigger exaust. It didnt do too bad. Would love to get a 21 window micro bus.

The tractor: Those steel seats were a terrible thing in winter and look out in summer if you didnt put a hessian bag on them before you sat down!
