Coco, currently the cost of my scripts haven't changed and will actually decrease a little next year.
Have you considered switching to a Medicare HMO( health maintenance org.)? Or joining a different prescription drug plan for 2014?

CoCo...have you tried Walmart or Target?...they both have $4-$5 generic programs. Not every generic drug is going to fall in to that category, since some generics are quite expensive as well. Check that option out and see if they are more available through those pharmacies.
Well, if a bunch of Americans are buying our generics at the discounted price, that would explain some of the shortages!

Ugh, and I am led to believe that we Americans only go after the cheaper, you know, "experience enhancement" pills from Canada...
I just received updates on Medicare Advantage Ins. Copays on everthing from Dr. appointments to medications going up. Many Specialty Drs copayments going from $35 to $70 primary Dr. from $0 to $10 and meds are all up free to $4 and other teirs are even more.
Gma and CoCo, who is your Advantage provider?
I order meds online from walgreens. They have a prescription program that costs $25/year. Most of my prescriptions are very inexpensive, generic. I still pay about $50/month on the average for meds, but I order three months at a time which saves a little on the cost, and the shipping is free.
CoCo,
You might qualify for some of the cost-relief programs that the pharma companies offer. I have a discount card for a couple of prescriptions that my family needs, and my group insurance plan from work picks up the tab for the rest.
It might be worth sending them an email to explain your situation.
I appreciate your comments and suggestions, rip, tenyears, yan, jgnat, gma, ber, Hortensia and Scully.
I don't have answers yet to some of the questions you've asked.
I have a discount at two pharmacies, but that didn't prevent the hit I took at K-Mart. One of our major chains went under due to the problem I referred to, i.e., the insurance companies paying below cost. My little, local pharmacy is convenient -- no waiting in line, 5 minutes from home and no need to travel far in winter (snow country).
I didn't know about what it is you are able to do, Hortensia.
Cost-relief would be a good thing now, Scully!
With gratitude,
CoCo
Zeb are you sure you are living in Australia?
It's not the NPS but it is the PBS and for those not on Health Care Card/Pension Card most scripts are capped at $36.10 and those with the Health/Pension card it is capped at $5.90
