    TR:

You reminded me of a certain Brother Jackson of my acquaintance. He was so enamoured of hearing himself speak and I think he secretly fancied himself a Dan Sydlik wannabe. Every Bible Reading or Talk that he delivered, he tried to sound like Pharaoh in the drama tapes. His "talk voice" and his "normal voice" were about as different to listen to as Gomer Pyle speaking and singing.

Rumor had it that he was once harshly counselled regarding his timing. Ever since then, he would take a stopwatch up on the platform with him and hold it up for the audience to see him set it as he began his talk, and then hold it up again to stop it at the end of his talk.

Hey, did anyone else have a special "talk voice" that was reserved for commenting at meetings or giving talks?? I noticed plenty of guys who did.

    Love, Scully

    Too funny!

This was actually my Dad! He never was the scholorly type and would mispronounce words all the time. We just giggled at him (he had a great sense of humor about himself). It would frustrate my best friend at the time though. I could hear her huffing about it next to me. She was so serious! Anyway, at least he wasn't slow about it, so always ended on time. And he was a MS, so it was funny when he gave the announcements at the TMS - something always came out funny!

I sympathize with the sister with the mentally challenged daughter. My older sister is a tad slow and would take about 4 years to give a demonstration. But, they kept assigning her....we never laughed at her though - that would just be mean. They finally got wise and took her of the list, but it was just recently.

Actually, LDH, I think the conductor needed to be counseled, not the student. I hope you all thought that the TMS conductor had made himself out to be such a big A*S*S for counseling her like that.

You can tell she took her talk seriously, and all the effort to help her daughter take part. I can imagine how she came to tears. How hard to have a mentally retarded child, no matter how much love you have for that sweet baby. Its very trying. And all your efforts to do just one thing "normally" can be sooo very hard.

This one will give special talk: Tending The Keg & The Flock, or The Fallen, The Drunk and The Holy Smoke.

    Sincerely,
