Now I know money is a touchy subject, so if you feel discomforted by these questions, don't answer!

Remember those articles that basically said "some have asked an appropriate amount to contribute for items such as the CD, bound volumes etc. This crap usually sells for $x in the shops."?

I recall it was about $30-$50 for the CD, and $20 and up for a volume, as a guide.

    So, a small survey:

How much did you contribute upon receiving the following items:

    1) The Watchtower CD?
    2) One year's set of the WT and Awake bound volumes?
    3) A large new release e.g. the Revelation book or Insight Volumes?
    4) A small new release e.g. the Knowledge book?
    5) A newly released brochure?

    Zilcho.

I never put a single, solitary red cent in those contribution boxes, but my parents did.

Looking back now I am damn proud I didnt, I would have been one of the "Swindled Class."

It is not religious persecution for an informed person to expose publicly a certain religion as being false, thus allowing persons to see the difference between false religion and true religion.

I had already left by the time they instituted the "donation" arrangement. In my day, they just told us the price and we paid it.

i never donated but my 'rents did. i guess that could mean i donated by having a few less pairs of new jeans for school or new shoes and many more hand me downs.

Count me in the 'just took the goods and ran' catagory. Oh, I dropped what I got in FS in the box, and made small 'token' drops from time to time, but never dropped large amts (over $10) for any 'purchase'. I was one of the "Oh it's free now" class

I would write a cheque once a year (to get the tax deduction) for $150. That would supposedly cover my order of 312 mags, volumes, yearbook, etc. It seems to me that the last price on the mags was $0.35 CDN before the donation arrangement came in. So, I guess they did OK by me. However, I would always give my donation to the local congregation, rather than to the society.

For the past three years, I have accepted the same quantity of rags from them, without contributing anything. I believe this is a truer indication of fair value.

Having been an accounts servant for a couple of years, and auditing the books for a few more, the society is only getting about $60 per month from our entire congregation. That is for a mag order of around 800 per month, plus books, etc.

I generally donated $100+ a month and put in 50 bucks for the CD and usually about 10 bucks per book.

I could have afforded lots of toys with that money I think.
