Because they are sure the Gentile Times ended in October 1914 but not how soon after that date Satan was hurled down from heaven: a few days, weeks, months, years?

The hurling down of Satan is the event described as "about" 1914, not the actual end of the Gentile Times in September/October 1914 itself.

Not that I agree with any of that chronology, I'm just pointing out that the use of "about" indicates no new sense of wavering over the correctness of date 1914 in their chronology from a JW point of view.

ecan6 there have been lots of discussions about this on JWN over the years. It's just another one of the Watchtower's glaring inconsistencies.

As for World War 1, everything was sent into motion with the assassination of the Archduke Ferdinand in June 28 1914. As a witness, I always believed that Satan himself was behind the man that shot him. But now, that timeline just doesn't make any sense!

As for the mismatch between WWI and Christ's second coming, the explanation among Witnesses I knew was that Satan was stirring up trouble on Earth before he was kicked out of heaven. He would have known when that was going to happen, after all. Of course any rationalization is possible when we're talking about invisible events!

I was taught (early 60's) that WWI was a DISTRACTON that Satan used AHEAD OF TIME to keep people from noticing the ending of the Gentile Times and the beginning of Jesus Christs Rule/ beginning of the "time of the end". That Christ's first act as King was to oust Satan from the heavens. Eventually, as the society kept dumbing things down they let WWI be associated with proof that the "Last Days" had started.

Yes, 3rdgen, that was actually what I was told too, as late as the '90s. I actually started to type that in my last post, and it was just so stupid that I couldn't do it! How could anyone have noticed an invisible event that made no difference in the world (besides the trouble the Devil was stirring up as a "distraction" from the unnoticeable event)?

It is very serious that they have revealed their own doubts by even mentioning this. This fundamental building block is thus proved cracked.

Sounds like the level of accuracy you get when 8 window cleaners make conclusions about predictions based on past dates and events.

Meanwhile in Geneva.........others are making predictions based on past dates and events.
