St. George-you are correct- they used the green material because they got a very good deal on it. Most if not all decisions regarding cover material and colors were economically based.

What happened was the WT saw the success of a book the GB all enjoyed reading called "Fifty Shades of Grey".
So, they thought the colour would ensure high sales figures, and would go well with the many shades of meaning they have imposed upon the text.
