SFPW - I'm assuming you are being satirical about no elder or CO being able to tell you what to do? If not I wonder what would happen if this month you don't turn in your report, or tell the CO you visit websites frequented by disfellowshipped people. How long will it be before you are told to obey the rules of the governing body or you are out?
No one in JW religion has a title that elevates them above others! I did not know this fact!

Mat.23:9 says" call no one on earth your father"etc. which vs.10,11,12. According to scripture they are all titles that can be used.
Witnesses like to use Mat.23:9 in attacking the R.C. church because they address their preist as father. It is all a case of semantics.
for I consider elder, CO, pioneer, etc. more or less labels, not necessarily titles. Furthermore, nobody in the congregation is more elevated than anyone else in the congregation. We all just have different roles and different responsibilities or privileges. A CO can't tell you what to do and neither can an elder, neither can the GB or the Writing Department through the literature.
D.O.`s have more authourity than C.O.`s , the G.B. has more authourity than anybody else whom they dictate to the writing department , as to what they will print in their magazines.
D.O.`s always tell C.O.`s what to do , C.O.`s always tell the local congregations what to do .

adamah, the scheme you described of "lottery leadership" reminds us of the ROTATING elder Position/WORK in the early 1970s.
the power hungry, entitlement crowd HATED it.
Wt hierarchy is the total reversal of Jesus' reported teachings.

Well the only difference is that you do not go and kiss bishops (sorry) CO:s hand and statusring, but maybe some other body parts.

We all just have different roles and different responsibilities or privileges. A CO can't tell you what to do and neither can an elder, neither can the GB or the Writing Department through the literature. The only thing they can do is provide Bible based counsel or suggestions that we'll take into consideration out of humility and recognition that they're where they are because Jehovah's spirit caused it to be.
While the CO etc may not say "You have no other option but to do this" they do hold, metaphorically speaking, your entire social network, family, possibly even your lively hood over a "barrel" , as it were, so that you will not be able to interact with this group, if you do not, well, how do you say, "Comply" with our understanding of what is best for you.
So whether a group of people are "physically" prevented from being interacted with , such as in a prison, or "mentally" prevented from being interacted with, such as being DFd which results in shunning. It ultimately is the same.

Oh, come on. They are as much titles as are Priest, Bishop or Pope.
SFPW - nobody in the congregation is more elevated than anyone else in the congregation.
Really? Yet an elder can judge a persons heart, disfellowship them, and be the reason that their family never speaks to them again. This judgement from the elders to put a person in a disfellowshipped is enough for the congregation to believe they will die at Aramageddon.
And that is just elders. The GB are a several levels more elevated than elders.
SFPW - A CO can't tell you what to do and neither can an elder.
I have already mentioned disfellowshipping, the ultimate power trip of telling people what they can do. Do you really believe what you write?

I always wondered why they got so giddy when the CO was coming to visit the cong. They always rolled out the red carpet.

@SFTW-the terms elder, pioneer co are most certainly all titles. In fact aren't these titles called "positions"? When someone is a" ministerial servan"t isn't this referred to a stepping stone to higher position?.
Also elders and co's tell you what to do all the time and most certainly the governing body tells you what to do. Haven't you been paying attention to the articles lately about obedience to those taking the lead? Someone told me one that if the governing body would say to him to paint this wall with peanut butter and jam,--he would do it no question asked.
Be honest with yourself--start taking a good look and start making notes of all the times brothers with titles lord it over you and tell you what to do
You got to get your head out of the sand there my friend.

Piss-off a CO sometime he will show that he is more than a mere labeled man. He will make your life a living hell and they don't even believe in hell. LOL
