They are still pushing the overlapping generation.

We understand that in mentioning “this generation,” Jesus was referring to two groups of anointed Christians. The first group was on hand in 1914, and they readily discerned the sign of Christ’s presence in that year. Those who made up this group were not merely alive in 1914, but they were spirit-anointed as sons of God in or before that year.—Rom. 8:14-17.

16 The second group included in “this generation” are anointed contemporaries of the first group. They were not simply alive during the lifetime of those in the first group, but they were anointed with holy spirit during the time that those of the first group were still on earth. Thus, not every anointed person today is included in “this generation” of whom Jesus spoke. Today, those in this second group are themselves advancing in years. Yet, Jesus’ words at Matthew 24:34 give us confidence that at least some of “this generation will by no means pass away” before seeing the start of the great tribulation.

But his rulership started in 1878. 100 years was in 1978.............(go to jwfacts.com to see scan of page)

    What the Watchtower said
    prior to 1914
"The year A.D. 1878 … clearly marks the time for the actual assuming of power as King of kings, by our present, spiritual, invisible Lord - …" The Time is At Hand (1911 ed) p.239

"Today, those in this <second> group are themselves advancing in years. Yet, Jesus’ words at Matthew 24:34 give us confidence that at least some of “this generation will by no means pass away” before seeing the start of the great tribulation."

Isn't that more or less the same wording used pre 1995?

Find the quote someone pls - there must be dozens of them...

Things were so bad in CTR's day that the World could not possibly continue until 1914.

Wow, very interesting Londo111. I see they're still assuring us that the "generation" is almost over while having also bought themselves some decades with the infamous overlapping stuff. What happens when The Anointed: The Next Generation die off too?! Can anyone estimate when that will be?

This is of course complete and utter balderdash.

On what basis, scriptural or otherwise, do they make this arbitrary assertion that this second group was "not simply alive during the lifetime of those in the first group, but they were anointed with holy spirit during the time that those of the first group were still on earth"?

Could they possibly give clearer evidence that they are just making this crap up as they go along?

By the way, if true, then that indicates that our new gibbering buddy Mark Sanderson was "anointed" prior to 1992 when Freddy Franz keeled over; i.e., he was "anointed" at age 27 or younger, at a time when the WTS was at its most militant in stridently affirming that any new anointeds would "have to be" replacements for others, and would "logically" be selected from among "long term servants with many years of faithful service".

I can't beleive these freaking desperate charlatans are having a another crack at the, "this generation is getting old now, the end must be real soon" trick. Only this time, it makes even less sense.

The bible says this generation. The WTS says this means two overlapping generations. And if the end doesn't come in the second overlapping generations lifetime, it could well mean three generations. Awesome stuff.

Yes we should remember that the current GB all started claiming to be anointed during a period when it was taught that only replacements for unfaithful anointed were being added, and that olders ones with many years of faithful service would be chosen over younger ones.

That the GB members all declared themselves anointed when they were young against this backdrop surely tells us a lot about their character. Either they are exceptionally delusional even among JWs in believing themsleves to be special ones, or they cynically started partaking because they envisaged attaining a place on the GB one day.

Nuts or Machiavellian, take your pick.

Just found the article online. You have got to love those celebrated Watchtower scholars.

"The Bible Students spent decades pointing out that the year 1914 would be significant."

Sounds better than saying that The Bible Students spent decades promoting false prophecy....
