So my wife and i chatted about thanksgiving last night and decided were going to celebrate it. She was reluctant at first but i then brought out that according to the bible that we shouldnt judge nor be judged on celebrating a festival because we are also still giving thanks to God for the life we have. i know many witnesses are on the fence on whether thanksgiving is politicak or pagan or whatever, but its no e of those. I hope this will lead into other celebrations. Just have to make it awesome to leave a good impression.

Hi DS211, Thanksgiving is an awesome time to spend with good friends and family. Unfortunately, JWs would probably not participate because of the WTBTS. Best of wishes helping your wife to have an awesome time - alcohol might help her to loosen up.

Peace be with you and everyone, who you love,

We often would have family together on Thanksgiving Day as most everyone had the day off from work, but we sure as hell would never cook a turkey because that would be celebrating the Thanksgiving Holiday. But come on over for a potroast or T-bone steak dinner. That's OK.

Crazy ass thinking that what you eat makes any difference between good and "evil".

My JW mother acts like Thanksgiving is A-Okay with JW's. I never figured out what [Talks-Outta-Both-Sides-of-Their-Mouth] Watchtower really wants us to think about Thanksgiving. Most JW's act like it's a gateway drug leading to Christmas.

What the hell is wrong with using a "worldy" holiday as an excuse to gather with family and friends, and ya gotta eat, right?
Turkey is a fairly seasonal meal and ya gotta have a big crowd to cook a big bird. But even Chinese or pizza would be okay for a large gathering if you don't wanna "be stumbled."

Here's an idea. Volunteer to serve Thanksgiving at a homeless shelter. You will see the shape, texture, and music of thankfulness.

If you don't use it perhaps another reader will pick up a tip.

I know a lot of Witnesses who have big turkey dinners around Thanksgiving. They just have it the weekend after. I don't think anyone thinks anything about it here.

Thanksgiving falls on a Thursday, and most Witnesses have there meetings on that night. So,another reason they usually have their dinner another day.

I grew up in a jw family including aunts, uncles, and grandparents. We all drank from the truth eminating from the watchtower. We also always had turkey on Thaksgiving - ALWAYS. We usually invited friends from the hall to our home. After eating my mother's turkey no one was stumbled, or complained,or refused an invitation - NEVER.

I continue the tradition and will again cook a turkey on Thanksgiving. There is plenty to go around. Any one in NYC over thanksgiving?

I also used col 2:16 Therefore, do not let anyone judge you about what you eat and drink or about the observance of a festival or of the new moon or of a sabbath. Pretty clear.
