AN INTERESTING THOUGHT EXPERIMENT

Triplets are born in a remote village in a third world country.

The parents are killed in a massacre and the children end up separated into three different orphanages.

Through sheer circumstance each is adopted by deeply religious parents only to grow up, one as a Jew, one as a Muslim and one as an atheist in a Christian family.

By means of an unaccountable coincidence, all three board the same airliner for a flight to Los Angeles.

The airliner encounters terrible weather and crash lands in the ocean while trying to make a landing at LAX.

Air Sea Rescue teams are able to save the lives of only three passengers.

    Yes--the triplets!

Injured and traumatized in the crash, they are transported to Cedar-Sinai hospital for medical treatment.

At some point in all the excitement and news coverage, some bright soul notices each of the injured survivors is identical in appearance

    to the other!!

An already extraordinary news event suddenly goes viral as investigation turns up all the known facts.

Three families converge in the hospital waiting room and confront each other asking obvious questions and sorting things out for themselves.

Within a week the three crash survivors are conscious and able to sit up. The hospital places the three of them in the same room.

    The families are allowed in.

None of the injured are able to remember events before the crash!

For all practical purposes, the amnesia has rendered them indistinguishable from each other to their adoptive families.

Being triplets, no DNA test would conclusively provide any clues.

Within another few days they all take a turn for the worse and die.

Now the families are faced with an insuperable tragedy and puzzle with no solution!

All three had left specific "in case of death" instructions years earlier--but--nobody can decide how to follow the last wishes.

The atheist wanted cremation, no religious ceremony of any kind and to have the ashes scattered in her family's backyard where her favorite

pets had been laid to rest during her childhood.

The Jew wanted an Orthodox Shiva and Kaddish ceremony and entombment in Jerusalem.

The Muslim wanted strict Islamic burial customs observed.

HOW COULD THIS PROBLEM BE SOLVED?

Sorry but the point of this?

Perhaps that religion means nothing, that we are all humans?

Great brain teaser but quite easy to solve.

All 3 had been raised with very different nutritional habits in different parts of the world. It would be fairly easy with DNA testing to ascertain what diet each individual had lived on and in what part of the world then identification as to who was who would not be a problem.

The problem can be solved by returning all three to the third world country. The origin of their birth and laying them to rest.

Put them in a giant blender, and then measure three separate parts for each of the requrests.

As crude as this is, I believe it is fair and meets the requiements of each person.

Physical appearance would most likely vary on dietary habits even though they were identical at birth.

Clothing also would be a determine factor to who was who as well hair style and certain personality patterns that the parents could recognize.

Once the parents came to the conclusion who was who, the funerals could then proceed as originally preplanned.

You could also examine the contents of each's intestinal tract. Religion has certain dietary requirements. But I still will stick with my original comment about the large blender.

    Terry asked-

The atheist wanted cremation, no religious ceremony of any kind and to have the ashes scattered in her family's backyard where her favorite pets had been laid to rest during her childhood. The Jew wanted an Orthodox Shiva and Kaddish ceremony and entombment in Jerusalem. The Muslim wanted strict Islamic burial customs observed.

I say bury them all within 24 hours (Muslims require a quick burial) in a group funeral held in L.A., and let the Flying Spaghetti Monster, Jehovah, and Allah sort it out upstairs. As the Rolling Stones song goes, "You can't always get what you want", and all of the families are going to have to compromise due to the circumstances.
