Of all the COs, how could anybody fail to remember "Cyclone Rex" Manwaring!

He struck our congregation (Newmarket, in Brisbane) in mid-1976, when the disappointment of 1975 had caused the "unthinkable"

i.e. the congregation's average hours had fallen well below the magical figure of ten per month.

From him, we certainly heard a lot about "hours", and his favorite expression was that if we were not, in effect "persecuting" ourselves in our service, we were not doing our job properly!

With "Cyclone Rex" weilding the horsewhip, the congregation's hours did improve. However, in the process, he made himself extremely unpopular - to the point that nobody would invite he or his wife for a meal. The then Service Overseer had to have that "priviledge" all on his own!

Others here have noted Manwaring's rudeness of manner. I certainly second that one!

By contrast, the previous CO to thast circuit was a Geoff Slarke, who was of a totally different cut to "Cyclone Rex."

Talking of contrasts, do any in NZ still remember Don Malpasse (Gilead Graduate of 1973 - then CO, DO and finally Branch Overseer in New Zealand )? He, too, was cut out of the completly opposite material to Rex Manwaring!

    Bill.

Winstonsmith= about the talk that Steven price gave that got me into apostasy. I had discovered on the internet about some of the legal cases they were facing for child sex abuse, and the 27 mill that had been awarded. From that everything just opened up e.g financial troubles, cut backs, loosing members etc. At this point in time I was playing around with this in my head, and sort of wondering what to do. I go to the circut assembly, were Steven Price was giving a talk, and I still remember his comments clear as day. "we know that we are in the truth, so that should be enough. So why would we want to go looking beyond that.". That comment convinced me. BTW sorry Steve if your comments had the opposite effect to what was intended.

Third time proves it, as the saying goes.

I think you will find the Bob Hawke lookalike was Bill Hoskings/Hoskins.

Don't be fooled by appearances as some have suggested that these manipulators were 'good people'. They were only good as far as they could get you to do servitude to the wts.

Evil, conniving, deceitful would be a more appropriate description of their characteristics.

Cheeses - ever the helpful one.

    CHESSES WELL DONE!

Yeah do agree that these "good guys" would call us all here the devil's spawn and shun us but I was seeing him in relation to those madmen who were CO's DO's. Some were clearly certifiable

Yes Bill Hosking is right Cheese, I remember him in Adelaide in the 80's.

More recently in Queensland there was the only single CO in Australia... Is it Wayne Hunt? Smart arse prick who thought he was so hot, actually very unattractive but had all the single sisters falling over themselves to marry him, boy did he brag about that!! A few years ago he married one of his fan club. Wonder what their dating was like lol.

Im also remembering Eric Roseveare, my elder father called him row severe as he was a jerk who liked to rule the elders with an iron fist.

Br Jenkins - He was a really tall CO. His daughter Debbie Jenkins was in Parramatta congregation

Peter Moore - Very sweet brother. His daughter Renee studied law and was in Bethel for a while.

Rex Manwaring - never liked him. Was he the one that constantly used the banana lounge illustration?
