I know an elder who blew a gasket after seeing the masturbation video on YouTube... He insisted that it DID NOT come from the Society and never even bothered to verify after being told where to find it on jw.org... he just refused to believe it...

Can't tell you how many times I have had the exact same conversation with my jw! If they get to the point of conceding that yes, it is in the wt literature they pull out the 'oh, it doesn't mean it the way you read it, it means in a 'sense' or some other way. You have to come to the meeting to understand".
So I ask my jw, "you mean I can't understand the Bible without the wt and I can't understand the wt's/awakes unless I go to the meeting?!" jw-"Yes! now you got it!" me-why the hell bother with handing out stuff people can't understand then?- crickets, change the subject.

Although the Worldwide Church of God wasn't as blatant about it, they went around saying that the only way you can have connection to God is through the church. And specifically in that church.
What I came to realize that Christ abolished the temple priesthood at his death (temple veil ripped to where the holy of holies was now open to all) Any organized religion that attempts to re-establish a separate priestly caste as a mediator was going in direct opposition of what Christ abolished.

Oh, so true.
I went to a few meetings, then asked questions about the presentation's contents with respect to the Bible and guess what the results from elders and others were?
Crickets.
As a non-jw, I mentioned my concerns about Christ not being my mediator and a pompous 'sister' loudly said, "You're obviously confused! Don't you read your Bible?" I smiled as she rolled her eyes. Maybe one day she'll figure it out and remember our conversation. I used to be appalled by these types of conversations but because I have a better grasp of the mindset, I'm now entertained by it.

This was awesome.
It's so exasperating argueing with a JW.
First you have to teach them what the WT dogma really is, which after a long argument they finally believe.
Then you have to teach them why the WT dogma is wrong, which after a long argument they still believe.

I remember convincing a fellow elder that the Great Crowd were in heaven, he was nodding and agreeing when another elder had to remind him that this wasn't what we were supposed to believe.

CRAZYGUY- Interesting thread, thanks for posting it. It's incredible really. Elders are appointed elders by the WT powers that be not based on anything that they know- but just because they kiss up to the right power teats running the WT Society. They are what they call " obedient " to the right people. They may be wife beaters in private away from the congregation, child molesters of children away from the congregation- but if they say the right things to powerful men above them and kiss enough a$$ - they will be appointed elders by just reporting 10 or more hours a month for a significant period of time. Moral character or knowledge has nothing to do with being appointed an elder- obeying the WT leaders does. My 2 cents. And that's a scary thought. Just like the Nazis in World War 2

I needed this thread because I have a question:
Can someone tell me WHEN the Borg decided that Jesus was THEIR mediator, and not all humankind's as per scripture?
Also, HOW did they rationalize the ursuping of the Mediator position that Christ held. -

Oh wait... I found the answer thanks to JWFacts... http://www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/mediator.php
