Startingover13, Thanks for sharing. I'm glad that your parents are loving and continue to be loving after your dfg.
You are still so young and how you feel today you may feel differently tomorrow.
Whatever you decide, try to live your own life. Don't give up your dreams in the here and now while waiting for some future life in the 'real world'.
And please continue to read and research the history of the religion.
Also, let us know how you are doing every now and then.
Wishing you all the best!

Hortenzie,
Speaking for myself, the JW religion and for that matter all Christian religions have all the same faults and flaws found in ancient Israel and first century Christian congregations. So the argument that the JW religion has done wrong or has changed or has rules or leaders who should not have the position they have and thus is not a decent Christian religion is moot. It is what it has always been.
Having said that I fully agree that most if not all Christian religions do not live up to Christ's teachings and the spirit of his life on earth. All Christian religions deserve what they get from non-believers who know the difference between sincere followers of Christ's teachings and hypocrites.

I am so glad you have unconditional love from your mom, who never became a JW. I am so glad your dad is going against 'counsel'/actually against Jehovah's organization. Certainly, he is keeping that a 'secret' in the cong. Have you not been hearing at meetings, from the WT mag., assembly talks with outline from the GB that JWs are not to be talking to any family members DF'd? Won't you just 'cringe' with those talks in the future?
How will you stomach it when you see a mom crying deeply, just hearing her child is DF'd, that now must 'shun' her child? How will you lovingly comfort her? knowing your dad did not shun you. Aren't you aware of the hundreds & thousands of former JWs DF'd now crying, depressed? or do you have some way of dismissing that reality?
8 men in New York will not dictate oh, yes they will. They have been sneaky on you for you to be so naive.
I do hope the best for you to be a loving husband, and in the future, a father with your children, having unconditional love for them also and promising you would never ever 'shun' them, under any circumstances.

Pelican,
we are talking about a person wanting going back to JW rel. we are not discussing Christianity...
By the way you cannot start a brand new Christian religion more then 1800 years after the fact... JW have no historical claim to Christianity what so ever...

Hi Hortenzie
Why can't someone start a new Christian religion 1800 years later or 2000 years later? Just wondering.

Pelican, this is not the right thread. But I think the answer is obvious. Religion is the fruit of a place and a time. Christ-ianity began with Christ almost 2000 years ago in Middle East...
And one more thought for Startingover13 - I am truly happy that your Dad doesn't shun you and helped you to put some order in your life. That's great! But a messy life or somebody's kindness (That's what Dads should do anyway) are not the right reasons to go back to a cult. It will not work out in long run.
I would like to hear from you, Startingover13. It's your conversation.

Hortenzie,
The NT does not put a time limit on the creation of new Christian congregations. But as you say, this is not the right thread.
Pelican
Edited (trying to save posts) to add that the Greek word for congregation in the NT is also translated as church. Church and Congregation are the same: an Ecclesia.

JW is a new religion, not a new congregation. There is not even consensus that it is a Christian religion because they don't believe majority of what historical Christian religions (or denominations) do.

Your earthly father and your Heavenly Father both have great love for you - something your ex-congregation doesn't have!
