I was absolutely astonished to get an email today from a mate of mine saying the J-DUBS have just thrown a hall up in town. Not only that, it's my old congregation, the one talking about building their own hall 10 years ago when I was there if not years before that.
So I just had to take the bike out and have a look. Weird place crammed between other buildings, and amazingly smaller than what it is replacing. You see, two congregations shared one hall. One big hall. Now one of the congregations has it's own hall, all be it small. I suppose this means that over-all the society has more property and more build-loans being paid. But how they could build a hall so small and think of it as expansion - I do not know.

ballistic, this is one of those areas I have been thinking about. We've been talking about resolutions and following along the party line and I really think building new halls is a prime examply of how brothers and sisters get caught up in the moment without really thinking. Who is going to really object to going into debt for Jehovah? Many congregations go deep into debt just for a new building and most go over expected costs, leaving brother X with a guilty conscience when he can't fork over serious money to pay the monthly bills.

Question: when they see results stagnating and they are expecting "THE LOVE OF THE GREATER NUMBER TO COOL OFF" - why are they building halls?

Because it's a fact that many people come into "the truth" as a result of being impressed with the "unity" that is displayed whilst a quickly built hall is being constucted.

No, it wasn't tongue in cheek, there were two families that were so impressed with our build, they started coming along!
