Has anybody meet anyone on here who they knew as a JW. Experiences please (page 2)

Yeah, I connected with someone I knew a long time ago, met his wife, too. Not in touch too much, but so darned glad they are not JWs.

I had been on this site for a short while when I saw that someone used their real life photo as their avatar and I recognized them immediately. We grew up in the same congregation. I pm'd them and we've gotten together a few times since. Such a great experience to be able to speak openly about what we know now!

I somehow missed this thread when it was new. I wanted to add my story.

I was reading the introductory thread from a poster, and thought the little bit of personal information sounded familiar. I PM'd the poster, and lo and behold, he is the son of the JW woman who started a study with me in 1973!

I am happy to report that this young man (well, young to me-he is married with a couple of kids) is now holding a local office in his town, and is a fine person. Unfortunately his wife and all of his family are still "in." I know it is hard for him.

I wish I could encounter others.

I have known of some not personally but friends of friends that have posted on here. I think because of the cult mentality of the organzation that a lot of too much to lose if they went public with their thoughts.

I'm sure there are more, but will likely only find out if and when I post with my photo, name, and/or congregation list (or if they do the same).

This is of course a great time to thank the many persons who like Paul Grundy model a way in which we can be totally open despite the consequences. Now if we all did that...

Not yet, although by using the search box by looking for local towns names etc, I've found at least three people I know. Haven't come out to them yet though, not really fair on the missus I thought.
