I didn't know about Billy Joel.
Prince was the typical story of being converted when most vunerable. His daughter died shortly after child birth, then his mother (who had become a JW) died, and her dying wish was for him to become a JW.

I understood Prince converted to the organization as a result of his dying JW mother's request. Immediately following her death (in the mid- to late 1990s?), he publically announced he was becoming one of Jehovah's Witnesses. I've heard of mother love - but even for me lucky enough to have had a fantastic, kind-hearted JW mother, joining an organization out of obedience to Mommy's request is a fkg step way too far for a bad son like me. Sorry Mom, love can move mountains but not mountainous objections to the loathsome organization you sincerely believed was "the Truth".

Ja Rule was right. his mother went to my Cong. before she got married and had him, so I know the folks that are responsible for his mom getting DFd, one of them is still a Dub according to her FB page, the others I think they're still in, but not 100 per cent sure

Thanks Barry. Interesting Article and the comments about how SDAs are losing adherents is similar to what is happening to JWs. It is hard to reconcile Prince's sexually infused music with his strong SDA message prior to his conversion. It is also hard to understand then why he converted. In one interview he talks about how JWs simplify truth from traditional church dogma. Yet Adventist doctrine is quite similar to Watchtower doctrine, so that hardly seems the reason for him to switch faith.

Gday Jwfacts,
Prince went to a black SDA church and they are usually more conservative than the white churches. The ministers in black churches usually have robes which adds to their authority.
Maybe Prince looked to the SDA church as a whole and realised there was much division. This by itself may have made the witnesses a more attractive option. I general a more cultic religion is attractive because the need to think for oneself is unnecessary.
The similarities between the witnesses and the SDAs is the historisist interpretation of biblical prophesies and both are pre millienial. The historisist interpretations in th eSDAs are being challlenged and from the 1980 on some doctrines were being chalenged by well known SDAs which is not good for cultic thinking. People start to feel insecure with differing opinions.
Pre millenialism was not taught in the 18 century as most people believed the world would get better and better and then after the millenial jesus would come. People like miller held to the belief that the world would get worse and jesus would come a belief held by most churches now.

I am just interested to know of your source of info. There are so many stories floating around out there about celebrity JWs and encounters of the worst kind.
