It's around 4 feet high, made of clay and weighs as much as a small elephant.
Anyone else tried one of these things? Any tips?

It is a device used by the English for purposes best left unstated.
Actually, it is a little heater/furnace/stove device that one uses outdoors to warm a patio.
Damn! Thats a big bong!

Hey man, I have one and here are a few things to consider. Hardwoods are best for burning in them as they will burn slower and keep the chimnea warmer longer...the whole point is to be able to sit outside when there's a definite nip in the air, and not have to have a bonfire. You may not be able to get Pinon wood which is the best, but apple, cherry, cedar or other aromatics will do nicely. Don't forget that bottle of scotch or cognac while you're outside staying warm. And above all, don't use it to cook...the material used to construct the chiminea may not be totally non-toxic. Enjoy!

Hum..
I've put it on the patio and lit a small fire in it, must light 4 small fires first to "season" it, according to the instructions.
Now it's raining and the drops are sizzling on the outside of it. The instructions say I can bake bread in it. Gives a warm touch I suppose.

They're nice to look at as you peer out your window onto the patio in your bath robe on a blustery day.

Seems like a lot of money for a big flowerpot.

In our area, the fire Dept does no allow them because of the low level smoke output. Make sure your next door neighbors are not in the smoke path.........
... either that or buy the bumper book of smoke signals and kiss BT goodbye!
