*** National Exposure of the Issue ***

Today (May 2) At about 9:40AM eastern time, CBC Radio One's national morning show "This Morning" interviewed the father of the JW girl in Calgary who has leukemia.

The website for the radio program is here:
    http://www.radio.cbc.ca/programs/thismorning/

They do have a "Listen Online" (live internet listen) feature, but it's too late to catch the program. They also have an option to purchase tapes & transcripts.

Quick summary of what I heard:
    - The father sounded very depressed -- which is entirely understandable.

    - He said he still beleives most of the Watchtower Society's teachings, he simply disagrees on the point of sacrificing his daughter's life by refusing a blood transfusion

    - They discussed possible alternative treatment: the father said that even the "alternative specialists" recommended by the Society said that she needs blood transfusions to survive.

    - He felt that when his young daughter made statements where were supposed to be "in her own words" she was parroting the phrases she had been coached to say (by the HLC?) (e.g. "have a understanding of my own mortality").

    - He must make an appointment to visit with his daughter. These visits last only 30 minutes, and he said the daughter ignores him and wathces TV most of the visit. She will only speak when curtly answering a direct question from her father. Occasionaly she screams at him that she hates him.

    - He has been shunned

Overall, I could really feel this man's pain oozing through the radio. Now that his daughter is getting the help she needs, I hope this gentleman gets the love and support he needs -- 'cause it sounds like he's not getting it from his shuuning former brothers ans sisters!

This is the sadest thing, and to hear that the society is suggesting that there is no alternative but the transfusions! Shunning Sucks!

OK, I am is the typical outsider who doesn’t understand. How can he believe in most of the WT teachings after the way he is being treated by them. Does he mean he still believes in the religious theology of the JW, but rejects the organization that has rejected him? How can the single blood issue be separated, when he is being shunned? Does he think the shunning is OK? The turning his family against him???? I’m so confused.

I feel terribly sorry for this poor, unhappy man, and he must be so overwhelmed and lonely he can’t even think. I can’t even blame him, if he just wants to go back to where he was, before all this. If he can get forgiveness eventually, maybe he can regain his family and whole cultural and social life. Everyone is different, and maybe he just desperately wants his old life back.

I personally would have a very hard time not rejecting something that is kicking me, as hard as the Watchtower is kicking him right now. I guess everyone is different, and has different needs. The poor, poor man!

I am going to try and listen here, in the West and see if I can hear it with the time delay.

hopefully, he will come to see the error in the WTS "religious theology" crackpipe and read some good books....

Did the radio program mention the trust fund that has been set up for his legal expenses? National exposure like this (especially to an older and very sympathetic audience, like CBC radio) could help his finances considerably.

I guess that segment played earlier than when I tuned in, so I have no idea.
Thank you, quotes, for updating us.

    <sigh> I missed this!

If you check out today's programming, it makes reference to the WTS's official website, but nothing about AJWRB, nothing about the trust fund.

From what I understand the WTS has threatened to sue any media that publicizes the trust fund, so it would appear that nothing short of complete financial ruin for this fellow and handing the lifeless body of his daughter back to him will satisfy the WTS and its minions.

I think I'm going to order a tape and/or a transcript of the interview.

    Love, Scully

Father's statement about 'still believing basically all the Watchtower's doctrines' (paraphrased) could be perfectly true, like no burning h**l, no trinity, preaching work, Chrsit's second coming...and so on.

And again, he may have legal reasons for sating what he did. I don't think is ovewr by a long shot. If his daughter survives, I hope Father goes after the Watchtower for something, anything.
