They dont keep peoples interest. The people are either fearful, mindless, or straight out faithful. Thats all there is to it.

I don't think they are interested. Once people are indoctinated (brainwashed) they just go along doing whatever the Watchtower tells them to do no matter how bored and miserable it makes them.

I think it is by promising something slightly different from the other religions.
A life here on earth, never to die and love in a brotherhood while you wait for this to come to pass.
None of which they deliver on.
