What surprises me is that you say they were very nice to you for the rest of your stay after you said all that. It says to me that although your family are rather lazy about knowing their own beliefs they are emotionally very healthy so that is a very good sign.

Get them to agree to answer some simple and well chosen questions - and then hold them to it - maybe guiding them to the relevant publication and page.

I have had the same type of discussions with some of my friends and family. It is like banging your head against brick wall due to the cognitive dissonance. I have to back down otherwise I'd either escalate my fade to an apostasy JC or just build walls rather than weaken them.
It's proof that individuals have to be receptive to TTATT but I do think that sometimes these types of conversations may just be something that people think about at a later time - a bit like the Paul planted, Apollos watered but logic kept making it grow!

You handled it very well, and bought up good points. It is enlightening seeing how JWs put their entire life in the hands of something they know so little about. Just be careful not to push the too far, though I wonder if it is worth sending just quotes to back up what you said about 1914, and the GB not being enspired.
