My wife is preparing to spend hundreds on a lap top to take into the field service. I carefully mentioned that the wts has gone from condemning the web to now using it.

Her reply" No they never condemned it just said to people to be careful in using it". My memories of convention speakers must be different and" This is the way things are now; its all downloaded from the web".

With that as a given then why isnt the wts issuing computers to any one who wants one? The 80million they made out of that building sale would buy a lot of lap tops.

Your now seeing more tablets and laptops in Kingdom Halls these days, its trending and looks like the WTS.

is all encouraging it, since that means they have to print less saving money. $$$

jws encouraged to use computers in field service and at meetings now. To direct people to jw. in fs and to look up scriptures at meetings. Its an expensive business and very hard for the older ones who cannot get/work the technology. Months ago at our hall had a talk dedicated to using phone on fs to show people how to go to jw. for answers. Lots needed new phones.

And yes at one time net considered bad, years ago alot of elders swore they would never get one. Well guess what...

They want all kh to have net access.

jwfacts.com has received ongoing growth, year on year. The more that the Watchtower promotes the internet, the more that JWs will be exposed to other information, and knowledge is power. No doubt, many mindlessly follow Watchtower instruction to avoid any other sites, but there are a good number that will not. I know that if the internet was around when I was a teenager, I would never have been baptised, or left in my 20s, not waited till 35.

Free computer classes are available for those unfamiliar with technology at my church. Maybe the WTS is going to use that money from the real estate sales to train the sales force.

Do tablets work with the WTS's new web stuff?

If the WTBTS wants to reduce printing costs and for JWs to use tablets/computers during FS, how will the WTBTS keep track of propaganda placements? I wonder if Bethel did a 360-deg assessment of risk mitigation about JWs using tablets/computers to access the internet more? Did they anticipate that some "Spiritually Weak" (still thinking) JWs will leave or that more teenage JWs will leave? Or, was it just a cost vs benefit analysis of less paper and ink to purchase?

I sometimes fantasize that the WTBTS secretly wants JWs to awaken so that the WTBTS can unload more real estate.
