I believe there is one God.I do not believe in religion. I believe he wants all of love one another and take care of one another. We need to appreciate all the beautiful things that God has put on the earth for us. Each day I take joy in appreciating all the elements of nature including each sunrise and sunset painted in his glory. Then I look at all his children and marvel at the miracles and talents each of them have to develop, love to listen to their voices, watch them dance, play, gymnastics etc such budding talent.
I wonder if you can be spiritual and religious at the same time??

The majority of creatures in the natural world are parasites. There is one called the Loa loa filariasis that lives by burrowing through eyeballs.

We need to appreciate all the beautiful things that God has put on the earth for us.
Why? Why do we need to appreciate that God did it (in your opinion)? How is appreciating the world different with or without god and what need will go unfulfilled if it is appreciated without God?
Does that also mean that we can blame God for all of the ugly things in the world? If not, why not?

That is an excellent question. No way to have a satisfying answer to that and still retain a belief in God.

Cappytan,
I've not found one yet that doesn't use special pleading or resort to circular arguments.
I'll actually net the question down even further.
If we give god praise for this:
Why wouldn't we blame god for this:

Yes Vivian I call him God you can call him creator or whoever but there is a lot of beauty to enjoy each day. I would hope that each of us would set a little time aside to appreciate some of it. The beauty can be found in nature, in music, in poetry, in dance.
Look around Vivian, I think a lot of the ugly can be blamed on mankind.

Xanthippe:
Well stated: "The human spirit needs art, beauty, poetry, music, literature and to experience different cultures around the world. To raise us up from the everyday humdrum existence, to make us think, feel deeply and to fill us with the desire to improve this beautiful planet so that everyone can enjoy it instead of many spending their days scratching out an existence and unable to think of anything but their empty bellies."
It's just that some of us including me think that the best path to getting us all there is anything but religion and superstition; to many of us, that's what being 'spiritual' is - superstition and self induced emotions based on either what we make ourselves feel or how we are influenced by the feelings and emotions of others, aka "team spirit," "community spirit," etc.

I don't call something like that anything. What does a god that causes the death of everything that ever lived have to do with beauty?

You're missing the point. You said we NEED to appreciate the beauty God gave us. What, functionally, is different from appreciating a sunset because we know scientifically how it works vs. appreciating it because you believe in God? What need is going unfulfilled in the former that's being met in the latter.
Look around Vivian, I think a lot of the ugly can be blamed on mankind.
Vivian what are the circumstances of the child in the second picture? That is an infant that was born with leukemia. If your god gets credit for healthy children, why doesn't he get credit for the second?
As far as blaming man, in the god scenario, we are god's children. You would not blame a child for accidentally pulling the trigger if a gun was left out, so why do you attempt to blame the children here? Why do you blame the victim? Why wouldn't you blame the really shitty parent that created all of these horrors?
