Wow. Thanks everyone for your well-wishes and encouragement. Thank you also for your pointers. I really appreciate your input!
I have been searching google, yahoo, and other people finders for several years now, to no avail. Mostly because my mother isn't an American citizen (no social security #) and because I only have her maiden name (she's remarried). I have written a few newspaper editors in Japan. Although they were kind and encouraging, they didn't really give any direction. I've even written Oprah , but never received a response back.
Here is the latest step as of this afternoon. I have been in touch with a Christian missionary that is in Japan and going to a Japanese Baptist church - the very church my parents got married at! (I found it on the internet!) I've emailed her and am hoping the church might have some record of marriage. We'll see and I'll keep you posted!
Dutchie, thank you for the Consulate address. I'll definitely make use of it!
Bob'sgirl, thank you for the Dateline link, I plan on filling out the form immediately.
Double, yes Daddy was in the US Army and was based in Misawa Japan at the time they met. Actually, I think he had completed his tour of duty and was teaching English at a local school. Where can I go to get someone to help me with the Freedom of Information Act?
Everyone else, thank you for your words of encouragement and hugs. It's nice knowing I'll have people to share the joy with once my mom and I do find each other. Who knows? Maybe she's searching for me too.
Love to all,
Andi
PS: If you have more suggestions, please share them. I will try any and all avenues!
