In 20 years the property that Malachi helped construct and pay for will be sold and the money will go toward the elderly GB diaper service. Malachi will be older then and struggle to care for his family. He'll wish he'd saved something for his family's future but a cruel religion fleeced him and won't care for him. They will tell him to pray more and that if he's in need it must be because he hasn't served Jehovah as much as he could. He wishes he could see his children again but he's forced to shun them because they left his faith to have a life. He'll die alone but it won't be mentioned in any future Year Book.
Worst yb experience I have ever heard heartwrenching

I just happened to read that and it saddened me. I have lived in Africa-even relatively (and I MEAN relatively) well off Egypt does not take any kind of transportation for granted (and they have regular affordable bus/van/taxi services in Cairo Metro). To eat in Africa is not as cheap as some would think and most kids who get "free" secular education basically get NO education. There are no social services to speak of other than family (which does as much as it can). That bike that he sold? And gave a big chunk as a donation??? HOW STUPID IS THAT??? You are leaving your subsistance family alone for two months to work construction and instead of giving them even a tiny little bit of security, you donate it to an organization that has BILLIONS of dollars? Why are not the profits of KH buildings taht are sold being used to help at least the people in Africa? Jeez, those people are so cold to the ones they claim as their own. That just pisses me off to no end cause I know what construction is like over there. It is dangerous. There are few hardhats, no OSHA rules (or even standards) and construction is notoriously a risky field. In any case, even if he was leaving for two months to sit at a desk, to leave his family with only enough to survive his PLANNED absence is just insane.
Who writes that crap? If it was true to ANY extent, I want to rescue his family from his stupidity. Otherwise I want to smack the writer for not even coming up with a story that a reasonable person could admire or respect.

Malachi sounds like an irresponsible moron.

2015 Yearbook update:
"Jehovah blessed Malachi for his self-sacrifice. Now he has three bicycles. And, in a miraculous turn of events, Malachi has more chickens than he knows what to do with. This is miraculous because Malachi had no chickens before he sold his bike. See how Jehovah blesses his people for giving their money to Watchtower?"

I watched a old black and white film about "The bicycle theif" a few years ago I think it was made in Italy and had the father who had a job plastering posters on the walls of the town and needed a bicycle to get to and from work?
Is that the one?
Also, not that I'm a bicycle fanatic but remember seeing a movie when I was younger about a town in Mexico where the rich man in town had the only bicycle and a little boy made himself a bicycle out of wood. Anyone remember this as I wanted to show it to my children but cannot find it.
