Thanks, Alan, I guess you can tell how long I've been away. What nonsense. Do you think they will ever do away with their 'last days' incantation?

No, yrs2long, I doubt they'll do away with that. They'll just tone it down a lot. If they do away with it, they'll lose too much of that carrot.

Realist, seriously, the Society more or less taught that the King of the North would win. In the 1958 book Your Will Be Done On Earth they predicted that the Soviet bloc would gain control of the world's oil supply and various other major commodities. About 1990, just before the Soviet Union collapsed, they again made such predictions and affirmed the truth of their 1958 predictions. The Soviet Union collapsed less than a year later. Talk about egg on the face!

    AlanF,

The brothers don't understand everything in the bible. Unlike you, they have deep respect for it.

    Alan,

That is interesting: Russia would win. On a similiar note, Rutherford predicted in 1938, or there abouts, that Germany would wind the war. They are batting zero on both prophecy and political predictions.

"wonder whether there's a conscious effort by Bethel to distance themselves from it "

What other choice do they have?

"summer assemblies in 1993, they presented a preliminary to this updated understanding"

    Any printed reference?

"about 1990, just before the Soviet Union collapsed, they again made such predictions and affirmed the truth of their 1958 predictions"

Any reference for us to enjoy?

    Fridolin squeaked:

: The brothers don't understand everything in the bible.

    Really! I didn't know that!

But they act like they do. Otherwise they wouldn't disfellowship people for voicing the fact that they're as fallible as you are.

    One strike against them.

: Unlike you, they have deep respect for it.

Two strikes against them. The Bible has a lot of good stuff in it, and a lot of garbage. Those who blindly swallow everything they're taught by Fundies like the JWs are just like ... just like .... uh. Yeah! That's it! Just like you, Fridolin!

And of course, we know all too well how prone JW liars are to leading. Oops, I mean, JW leaders are to lying. Whatever! Wid dem, all kine sam ting!

    Anyway, three strikes! They're out!

    Larc,

Jehovah's Witnesses or no JW's, there is nothing wrong being a little overzealous in what they said about the last days.
