These were the songs of my youth that I fondly recall. They called for peace justice and kindness. . He wrote the soundtrack of so many of the boomer's lives.

    RIP

Pete came to our local elementary school here in northern Wisconsin a year ago to give a program. He used his music as a teaching tool and involved the kids within his program. He was passionate about sharing his ideas through his music, especially with children. He was a big hit. Rest in peace, Pete.

Looking back, he was the elder statesman, too. He was a father figure in the protest movement. I believe he started with union organizing rallies. What was the name of the group he was in when he was young? The Woolies? He was very close to Woody Guthrie.

He also had a fit when Bob Dylan went electric at Newport Folk Festival, demanding that the power be cut. Yet he always did Dylan covers and spoke highly of him.

I was lucky that he appeared to be NY based.

Where has all the folk music gone? In the late 60s, the major hippie station in NY played folk punctuated with rock. The two genres were paired. Now I look at Pandora and iTunes for modern artists. All I can find are a few college radio stations. They are hard to access.

Does anyone recall WBAI in NY and Berkeley? Since I am back in the area, I hope they run a tribute tonight. I live in the Hudson River area and had ample opportunity to see Seeger. I was always going to check him out in the future. My mind can picture Pete leading his famous sing a longs in heaven. I always felt better after he performed.

There was a benefit and Hendrix was the headliner. It was on a school night at Madison Square Garden. Hendrix was a no-show. It was close to a riot. We waited so long that my attittude was find him and drag him to perform. Peter Travers of Peter, Paul, and Mary came out and entertained us for hours. He was losing his voice. The contrast between Hendrix and Peter, Paul, and Mary's music was huge. We calmed down. Travers did a Pete Seeger.

I feel a personal loss. He was so likeable and kind. I can't recall where he ever preached politics to us. His personality was his act more than his music. No matter what the occasion, he had a certain mellow attitude. It shocked me that so many TV viewers disliked him.

I dreamed of going to Newport. Somehow I started reading The Village Voice. Page after page would be devoted to this artist, Dylan. I had no idea where Newport was. Of course, I had no money or permission. By the time I could go, it was over. Dylan was a recluse. It ached to see newscasts of Newport and not be there.

You are very fortunate. I won't mess up Pete Seeger's tribute by asking you if you saw Dylan perform. A neighbor gave me a gift of a DVD documentary of Dylan at Newport. Pete Seeger is in many parts.

Someday I am going to Newport and visit the mansions. Wow, it is almost as tho you hung at the Cavern in Liverpool.

So where is all the folk music? I hate pop music.

Do you remember Burl Ives? I had trouble showing much enthuism is traditional folk. My soul wanted to protest. I wonder how many Americans know of Pete Seeger. While I was having my hair done, I mentioned that someone was Dylanesque. The stylist never heard of Dylan.

I am so happy that Pete Seeger's later years were so active. He was always so happy to be on stage.

I knew of him but never knew he wrote so many of the songs I loved growing up. They were not only great songs, but influenced a generation.
