“It’s more jobs and from that point of view it does away with a site that is heavily contaminated with car battery and acid"

It can not really be classified as a business in the normal sense.. It brings no benefits or services at all to the community, it does not bring jobs to the locals, or anyone for that matter.

They won't be paying Local Taxes (Commercial Business Rates) either. All the good people of Chelmsford will get out of it is a tidy Site.

The Local Authority could have achieved that by slapping an Order on the Site owners to tidy it up.

That guy may be polite to them when they knock his door, but he still seems to be a numb-nuts, they will probably end up recruiting him.

"In a Chronicle poll, a third of readers said they were not looking forward to seeing 50 acres of rundown car breakers' yard Temple Farm, in Ship Road, Galleywood, transformed into residences for 800, a printing press and plush green gardens."

    .

what does it say about the reputation of Jehovah's Witnesses when people prefer having a junkyard remain in their neighborhood rather than JWs who will transform it into "plush green gardens"?

    .

    Too funny....

They will clean up the site , scoop up any government grants available , build using free volunteer labour & use it for a while and sell it off in twenty odd years time to some other religious group or as a nursing home or corporate HQ for some minor PLC anyway. The justification is that it will be time to relocate somewhere else in SE England or maybe by then just close the branch & have a super Euro branch in Germany. That's the way the WTBTS has always worked and always will work - it's not exactly rocket science. It is a business of sorts - but a property flipping entity enveloped in a charity with a sideline in printing & distributing religious literature.

Since January 2014 the german branch is still renamed. It's no longer the german branch - now named central europe branch.

I don't think the community realises it will also result in a massive influx of JWs in the area, and therefore knocking on people's doors a lot more. Many of of the comments on the article seem to be along the lines of: "it's fine as long as they leave us alone and don't bother anybody". I think that person is in for a shock.
