We had an elder that regularly drank wine and other cocktails. He would come to night meetings, including elder meetings, shall we say, "feeling good".
We had an elder that was losing it and failing because of old age/dementia.
I knew a lot of elder's wives that were on meds in order to function but I wasn't aware of elders under the influence of drugs. Just so-called "holy spirit".
Well, I guess all the elders were ok, after all.
I did not know an elders who were drinkers, but I was pretty young and perhaps naive.
I do remember some older ladies who were pretty crazy and when they answered during the Watchtower would say something like that they "have SEEN their gaurdian angels protecting them". The conductor was always having to intrupt them to change the subject and get the mic out of their hands. Maybe they had been drinking !
I remember our P.O. would come reeking of alcohol.
He also was a closet smoker and got caught and
was removed.
If God was to judge us, He would have to take our puney lives and history into consideration and all that we feel and have experienced, more than a human court. I'm sure he does that? NO? Then come up with some better argument.
I had an alcoholic uncle who also was a elder. I think he was classified as a "mean" drunk.

We had numerous in my old congregation, they hide behind closed doors!!

Two years in the borg we invited one of the Elders and his
wife over dinner. After dinner we had drinks, I notice the Elder kept
his glass fill ( Crown Royal, straight). Needless to say when it was time
for them to go, he was stepping a little high.
The kicker, two Elders in my hall approached me the next Sunday and
told me it was irresponsible on my part to overindulge and to be more
responsible with my guest.
The poor brother , his wife drove him home and he passed out. His wife
reported the incident to his fellow Elders.
Ok I was new in the borg didn't know the rules yet, who could hold their
alcohol and who were a closet alcoholic.LOL
