Manitoba Kids given Ritz Crackers to 'balance' an 'unhealthy' lunch. Tongue-in-cheek here, this is what social programs will getcha.
What is a little insane is that potatoes are listed as vegetables rather than a "bread".

I usually just bring two fishes and a few loaves to assemblies and feed everyone. Then the surplus is gathered up to feed the next group coming in.

The Circuit Overseers and their wives don't partake...they always have "special" dietary needs....

Sharing is great. It's just that the WTBTS has zero freedom of speech/credibility. Their constant negative dubyap about getting an education has produce a new society, one that is the poorest of all Christian religions. Since the WT machine has no plans to stop making money with their CA's and DC's, something must be done. They aren't going to build easily accessible assembly halls for people. Everyone is expected to foot the bill to drive hours for the privilege of attending, and then they are solicited for money.
So now, anyone with a decent income will be coerced into supporting others who can't support themselves because they obeyed the WTBTS in regards to education and employment. The GB should just back off and leave people alone. If they just let people actually meet whith who they want, when they want, they wouldn't have this issue now. They want to control others and be the masters of their faith, so this is the result.
I guess this suggestion of sharing food is no different than suggesting that JWs give money to the WTBTS on a consistent basis. It's just one more legalistic approach to religion. It's going to come down to the individual to decide if they will be bullied or not. I already pay a crap load of money for a SUV that my wife takes in service. I pay for the gas, the maintainance, ect. On top of that, my wife is constantly stressed about medical bills and other bills. Yet, she spends hundreds and hundreds of dollars to visit JW MECCA, the bible museum!!! WTH?!?!? Don't gripe about money when you are wasting it on a trip to New York!! I also pay for Pioneers who don't have insurance because they won't get a real job. We ALL pay for that. When in enough, enough??
My determination is to stop giving cash to the WTBTS. I will help any individual JW who truly needs help, but not by throwing cash at them. Like addicts, they can't be trusted with money. If they need food, great. If they need home repairs, I don't mind helping. If they do NOT want to work, then neither let them eat or receive help from DD. Dead beats beware.... Hey, JWs!!! "Why do YOU people keep paying out money for what is not bread, and why is YOUR toil for what results in no satisfaction?" Isaiah 55:2

I think the comments from LongHairGal and DATA-DOG are right on. This is exactly where this is all leading. What I don't know is precisely what the income to the branch offices and HQ is being used for. While it is true that there is some construction cost to the Warwick/Tuxedo project, that is a small expenditure compared to the income generated from the sale of property in New York. The only costs there are for material, a small bit of contracted work, and property/permits. Everything else is a massive amount of volunteer labor - and the volunteers have to get themselves there and back with no expense relief except for (maybe) room and board (not sure if this covers everyone who comes from RBC to help).
The actual contributions that come in for congregations is fairly miniscule and comes from a small number of congregation members. However, at circuit and district/international events, the contributions are more significant. While at circuit events the donations are directly remitted to the assembly hall or venue rented with some donations going to Worldwide Work, for district conventions all contributions are remitted to the branch office and the branch office handles venue expenses directly. A rough back of the napkin calculation for district conventions in the US would yield roughly $12m after venue expenses so the income from those is not as much as you'd think. The large proceeds from the real estate sold might approach $1b, but I suspect that this is a hedge against drastically dropping Worldwide Work contributions - which are about a 1/4 of what they were 20 years ago. Investing those funds won't gain them much but the run time will be significant in the face of drastically reduced income.
In the end, if we expect the organization to provide general relief when the next big financial collapse occurs, I think their direction from them is going to be that the few employed people share everything with everyone. And that is going to be extremely difficult for most folks to do. Very difficult.
Committeechairman:
Thank you . Your concluding few sentences are what I believe will happen in the religion and I don't need a crystal ball to predict this either.
Can you actually picture it? I have a mental scenario of the last few employed people in the religion having people come up to them like pan-handler/zombies! I honestly don't know how anybody could tolerate being around this.
I am so grateful to be miles away from that religion!
Ironic isn't it that this organization has grown immensely in wealth and prosperity over the years,
through land and real-estate acquisitions , that it hides its wealth from the eyes of the flock.
The every present laboring and pleading for money continues as it ever has in the Kingdom Halls
and the congregates have no knowledge of the millions held by individual branches and HQ of this organization.
.
Realistically hasn't corruption and deceit been an involving part of this organization from its very beginning?
Using only one square of toilet paper per person isn't all THAT hard.
I remember being shown how to many (or is that some) years ago when I was still just a pup.
You take the one square, fold it in half, then fold it in half again. Then you carefully tear the pointed corner off, which leaves a nice round hole in the middle of the square. You insert your middle finger through the hole, wipe your ass, then carefully fold and pull the toilet paper off your finger removing the shit as you do. See...EASY!
(BTW...THAT is a JOKE!)
Anyone who comes to my door can have food, clothing and shelter, but they will have to listen to me preach TTATT! We will see how hungry they really are!!!!! [ Evil laughter]

Well then why didn't the 5 wise virgins share their oil with the 5 foolish virgins? And doesn't the Bible say, "Each one must carry his own load"?
Seriously, though, if someone was too poor to bring their own meal, they are probably too poor to travel to the convention site anyway. (Except for local homeless people who might wander in looking for a free meal.) Usually those with special needs - elderly, single moms, etc - are either brought there by someone else (who can feed them) or receive financial help through their congregation so that they can attend. For example, a single mom "in good standing", the congregation might pay for her gas money, motel room and meals.
Myself, if I was too poor to afford to bring my own lunch (let's say if I had lost my job or something) I would not merely show up and hope to receive a handout. I'd make arrangements beforehand...ask for help from a friend or from the congregation.
Another thought. Why should the publsihers bring extra food to feed other attendees? Let the society set up an arrangement for them. They can add it to the cost of having the convention there, and recoup it from the contributions.
46 Day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. - Acts 2:46-47
So then, when you come together, it is not the Lord’s Supper you eat, 21 for when you are eating, some of you go ahead with your own private suppers. As a result, one person remains hungry and another gets drunk. 22 Don’t you have homes to eat and drink in? Or do you despise the church of God by humiliating those who have nothing? What shall I say to you? Shall I praise you? Certainly not in this matter! - 1 Corinthians 11:20-22
