The zeal has gone out of the preaching work , their is no more urgency to the work.

The Watchtower loses far more "brothers and sisters" to apathy than to apostasy.

My "still in" daughter went out for an hour last Saturday with two other sisters and said theystopped by the bakery and just gossiped the whole time.

My aunt had rvs she had been calling on for years, cookies and tea, and conversation for about an hour...she had enough to get 12 hours each week. No d2d ever. We would always stop for coffee and lunch after and she would give the waitress a tract, add another hour. There were so few places to stop for break that sometimes 3 book study/field service groups would show up at the same place and spend an hour visiting.

How would you warn people of an approaching tornado? False alarm? Note this WT "reasoning."

    *** w68 1/15 p. 41 The Time Is Short ***

People living throughout the earth today might well ponder the lesson of such a situation. Survivors often come forth from the shelters to scenes of appalling desolation, but at least they are alive! The victims are usually those who failed to heed the warning. What if it should at times turn out to be a false alarm? Would it not be far wiser to take precautions and protect one’s life? When all the signs point unmistakably to the approach of the tornado, how foolish to ignore warnings!

jws go d2d to save their own lives, not to save anyone else (except maybe their minor children).

Heh, yes, blondie, when service groups collide at a break stop, it always delays the process of getting back into the ministry because of all the chit-chat. I used to hate that.

Comment from Milton Henschel, IN SEARCH OF CHRISTIAN FREEDOM, p. 232:

"And what will the brothers do if we give them more free time?
Probably use it in watching TV."

    Ray Franz's Response:

"Whether they consciously think of it in this connection, the men in positions of leadership also know that the Watch Tower organization has produced a publishing empire of tremendous size, one that has taken decades to build up. That publishing system with its large, expensive branch offices and printeries and the impressive, multi-storied dwellings for those operating these, are a source of considerable pride and a frequently cited evidence of divine blessing and prosperity. Any diminishing of the pressure on Witnesses to engage in door-to-door activity with the publications flowing from that system could eventually cause that empire to crumble or require its being largely dismantled. I seriously believe that for many of those in the organizational leadership, the very idea of this is unthinkable."

"Give them more free time"??? Just who the hell did this guy think he was? (erg; never mind, don't answer that)

Oh, absolutely; without the WTS, the vast majority of these men would have nothing.

    They would be nothing.

I read Crisis of Conscience years ago, but I think I may have to finally read In Search now, too.

    Dear Friends,

Some have expressed interest in the above title and their wish to have it for themselves. The chapter of particular importance to many of us is "Legalism - Opponent of Christian Freedom." At the following links you will find comments from JWD members and observations by Ray Franz on child custody cases, theocratic legislation, alternative service, acceptable secular work situations, and "labelling."

Who stays out until 12:30!!?? LOL!! I haven't been out "publicly" for 3 months or so. I just text my time to the Eldubs. For all they know, I am witnessing informally. They only care about the stats anyway. So far no Eldubs even call me, even after the "8 Dukes" article!! I don't think they want the GB bossing them either!

There is no urgency, that's for sure. I remember some newbies that got baptized when I was a kid. They were really nice, and all gung-ho. Now the brother is a big-wig at Bethel. He is in the teaching dept for something, anyway he looks super burned out and tired. The Big A aint here yet. Tons of dubbies are dying off, the infirm section of the DC's are reaching critical mass, kids don't really study unless they are forced to. Hopefully this decline will continue. We just need a HUGE scandal!! GOD, if you are out there, DO SOMETHING!!!!
