My Story Of Abuse

Thanks for the "WB" Dana. Glad someone missed me! (I had my reasons for staying away, perhaps I'll e-mail you.)

I can understand why Nathan was skeptical. We've seen the emergence lately of more than a few JW apologists. While I do not doubt Jacinta's story, what better way to discredit all the true accounts of abuse than to post a few stories which are false? Didn't someone try that recently with the "Our worst fears..." nonsense?

I am sure Nathan was just trying to avoid any of that. In truth, I have never heard of an exclusive JW school, but I am willing to defer to those who have first-hand knowledge. It would surprise me, however, to learn that if such has ever existed, non-Witness children would be allowed to attend.

Again, I do not mean to call into question Jacinta's story at all. I can't believe anyone could be so insensitive as to publish a story such as this one on false pretenses.

    Wasa,

Why do you doubt that nonJws could attend? The best way to get new converts, it to start on them when they are young.

My wife is going to see if she can find more specifics about the situation in Arizona. A number of JWs from our area retired there, besiders her own father and mother.

Thank you, wasasister. Do you mind if I think of you as "aremysister"?

You are spot on about the reasons for my suspicion.

If I am persuaded that I am mistaken, it won't be the first time, and I'm man enough to apologize if I am mistaken.

I'm curious about when these "JW schools" operated. Yes, I am aware of the "schools" that the WTS ran during the years of WWII when JW kids were being thrown out of public schools for not saluting the flag, but Jacinta's story seems to be placed in the more recent past.

    Larc:
One of the reasons I left here was the tendency for some to misquote. Please try to be accurate. I did not say I "doubted" non-JW's could attend a JW school. I said I would be surprised. There is a difference.

My apology Nathan; I understand and appreciate healthy skepticism. My reaction was based on how often victims of abuse are doubted by those they tell their stories to, and personally I'd rather accept the story at face value until proven otherwise just in the interests of not being guilty of causing additional hurt to one already in pain.

Yes Wasa, I've missed you. I always find your posts to be reasonable and compassionate. And I agree that there have been many on the boards lately trying to cloud issues. I imagine that will only get worse as the heat generated by the media continues to put pressure on the WTS. Please do email me; I'd love to hear from you.

As for the schools, I did a quick and dirty Google search but didn't find anything beyond some private home-school types for JWs. If anyone is able to verify the info, that would be great.

Wasa, I wanted to add that I was definitely under the impression that these were JW only schools.

In fact, it was at a convention in the early 60's that I met a young woman and her brother who attended the Long Island school. It was definitely only for JW's, as I remember her commenting how much nicer it was not to have to deal with 'wordly people.'

I can't imagine at all that non-JWs would be allowed to attend - rather defeats the whole purpose IMO.

Larc, your thought as to 'what better way to convert' simply doesn't compute.

But, as far as the Phoenix area school, this was told to me by my mother, and would have been in the mid-70's, and into the mid-80, seemingly in the time period poster Jacinta said she was there?

(((Hugs, Jacinta))). I think, perhaps, your reading the site, and seeing all the postings re the molestation cover-ups, inspired you to post your personal experience. Please, understand, that because we have had an influx of disruptive JW apologists, we are on 'high alert' re possible trouble makers.

Do, e-mail me...I think we can easily confirm if you knew any of the several people I personally knew in the Glendale Congregation. Some of them had rather unusual events that you would probably know about if you attended there.
