The Awake said "In this century". That doesn't mean an overlapping Generation.

Never did they say, ' These are the words of Jehovah'." (AWAKE! 22. March 1993)

.. do the lies ever end?

    WT 09/15/2010

" Similarly today, a Governing Body composed of spirit-anointed Christians contributes to the unity of the worldwide congregation. The Governing Body publishes spiritually encouraging literature in many languages. This spiritual food is based on God's Word. Thus, what is taught is not from men but from Jehovah.-Isa. 54:13."

    .

"Those who are convinced that The Watchtower is publishing the opinion or expression of a man should not waste time in looking at it at all, because a man's opinion proves nothing except when that opinion is based wholly upon the Word of God. Those who believe that God uses The Watchtower as a means of communicating to his people, or of calling their attention to his prophecies, should study The Watchtower with thankfulness of heart and give Jehovah God and Christ Jesus all the honor and credit..." (W 1-1-1942, p 5)

God uses The Watchtower to communicate to his people: it does not consist of men's opinions

"A mature Christian must be in unity and full harmony with fellow believers as far as faith and knowledge are concerned. He does not advocate or insist on personal opinions or harbor private ideas when it comes to Bible understanding. Rather, he has complete confidence in the truth as it is revealed by Jehovah God through his Son, Jesus Christ, and the faithful and discreet slave." (Watchtower, August 1, 2001, p. 14).

The Watchtower, June 1, 1955 Issue, Page 333:

....today the power of appointment of all servants in congregations rightfully rests with the governing body of the "faithful and discreet slave" class, which is under the direct supervision of Christ Jesus at the temple.

Yes. Is the living God, Jehovah, the Director of the theocratic Christian organization? Yes!

"The voice of Jehovah speaks to us today through his organization, giving us correction and instruction in righteousness and in active ministerial service. "

. "And as was true of Noah, our success depends on obedience. We must obediently follow the direction Jehovah provides through his Word and his organization"

"How happy we are that Jehovah is still speaking to us today, through his Word and his organization! "

Sorry I have to eat crow. My picture from the OP says generation THAT SAW 1914. So that in itself does not encompass an overlapping generation. But I wasn't talking out my ass, I just remembered a different quote.

The January 1, 1989 Watchtower clearly pointed to the year 2000 as the farthest limit of the preaching work and our system of things. It stated, "The apostle Paul was spearheading the Christian missionary activity. He was also laying a foundation for a work that would be completed in our 20th century."

that 1989 Watchtower quote seems oddly familiar. Oh...here's why:

    .

"True, it is expecting great things to claim, as we do, that within the coming twenty-six years all present governments will be overthrown and dissolved . In view of this strong Bible evidence concerning the Times of the Gentiles, we consider it an established truth that the final end of the kingdoms of this world, and the full establishment of the Kingdom of God, will be accomplished at the end of A. D. 1914 ." --Studies In the Scriptures Series II - The Time Is At Hand (1889) pp.99, 101

    ..

100 years later...WT's story is the same, and still hopelessy wrong!!

AndDontCallMeShirley - "... do the lies ever end?"

I figured out a long time ago that if you have to cheat to defend your ideology, the ideology doesn't deserve to be defended.

Awesome thread. Please, can someone here type in search box of Watchtower CD these phrases " God's Spirit-directed organisation"? I would not fail to see a connection with this very important thread.

    @ Scott77---

I got only four results-all having to do with baptism as a JW- (no surprise). Here they are:

    -

    *** w89 1/15 p. 13 par. 18 What Prevents You From Getting Baptized? ***

Only if the individual answers in the affirmative and also understands that his dedication and baptism identify him as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in association with God’s spirit-directed organization can he acceptably undergo water immersion.

    --

    *** w85 6/1 p. 30 Subjecting Ourselves to Jehovah by Dedication ***

Do you understand that your dedication and baptism identify you as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in association with God’s spirit-directed organization?

    --

    *** w06 4/1 p. 22 ‘Go and Make Disciples, Baptizing Them’ ***

    The Two Baptismal Questions

On the basis of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, have you repented of your sins and dedicated yourself to Jehovah to do his will?

Do you understand that your dedication and baptism identify you as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in association with God’s spirit-directed organization?

    --

*** km 4/97 p. 3 par. 5 Directing Students to the Organization Behind Our Name ***

"Do you understand that your dedication and baptism identify you as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in association with God’s spirit-directed organization?" Hence, it is important that he realize he cannot serve God without actively associating with the true Christian congregation.

    — Matt. 24:45-47; John 6:68; 2 Cor. 5:20.
